Ive seen a few thread but none really say what fits and what does.
whats the lowest ratio gearbox which can fit on a vtr without major modifcations, lower the better.
on the MOT will this effect the car in any way?
im looking at changing my gearbox within the next few months. but looking at buying one now.
ive heard good things about the s1 rally gearbox? i may be wrong but dont hillclimb saxos use these?
finaly, whats the decent makes on 3 point clutches or what the best to use with a short ratio box? what sort off prices am i looking at for this and also the gearbox?
ive seen these clutches but are they any good? link below.

Standard clutch will be fine mate if you are standard power, the new gearbox wont affect this.
For short boxes you want to be looking at series 1 rallye, xsi or a series 2 rallye. It wont give you any problems with mot's
You should be able to find one for under £200
Pm jpsaxo on here he has an xsi box for sale.

well in the long run im looking at a set up like yours. bascally lol. inspired ;)
is the xsi box a straight fit and is that from a 1.4? if im right?
im going to the local scrappy as he has a rear ended xsi so the gear box will be ok on it.

i seriously wouldnt put a xsi box on a vtr, youll probaly top out at 100mph. i think a vts box is plenty short enough.
any 106 or saxo gearbox will fit and wont cause any trouble at mot. a few xsi boxes have diffrent lenght driveshafts. but just compair the 2 when you do a swap to ensure there the same.
a quick list of longest to shortest box.
diesel
vtr
1.4
1.1
vts
s2 rallye/1.6 xsi
1.4 xsi
s1 rallye
i think thats about rite :)

There is also the Citroen AX 4X4 and they are the shortest. Though it does have a power take off.
However it really depends on your engine spec to what box you should use.
I have a close ratio race box with AP LSD and 4.9 final drive going cheap. I will take offers around £950

i dont mind topping out at 100mph.. as i tend to stick to 70/80 tops on public roads until i 1/4 mile ect.. then i need the lower ratio to get the correct gearing, after ive done internals, pictions cams ect, i want to go for tb's.
But this is over this year. whats a complete direct fit for a vtr then? any years models ect?

Just seen that you had a VTR. I also have a large valve full race GMC head, Alpha throttle body set with full loom management all the sensors and well the lot. I have a GMC race cam as well any many other bits and bobs. Say £950 for the lot. Or if you want all that and the box say £1500. That is less than what the head cost.

not looking for any thing that serious yet. just want to see what sort off times the gearing difference will make to times. im going to fcs to try standard/exhaust/induction and see what times i can make on standard box then fitting it and going back to a rwyb to see if it makes a diffence then cams tb's re-map.
as my exhaust is ready i think, janspeed manifold and ashley comp exhaust. just working on it over the next year.

i would be very intrested in that but im looking to do it over this year.. to try keep costs down a little. if i had the money i would snap them off you straight away. would you sell the throttle body and loom on there own? will they run on standard ecu or when you mean full loom managerment you mean ecu aswel?
it also depends how long your looking at keeping all that stuff.

Its a full Alpha throttle body setup including the stand alone management. I am not to keen on splitting as I don’t really want to be stuck with bits. I could do with getting rid of it all as I don’t want it sitting about. Feel free to send me a PM with a offer on any of it. I also have some AP 4 pot brakes on allot bells and kit car spec alloy front struts. I have a old works rear beam as well.
