I have a 1.1i saxo.
I know most people will say its pointless, but i have spent to much money atm to replace the car.
What would you guys reckemend engine wise to improve proformace.
I know most of you guys would be like just get a vtr/vts but i want to make a quick 1.1 just because i can, i guess.
All susgestions are welcome, i will be looking into every ones, idears and pick what i believe will be the best. curretly its standard with just a filter.
Thank you.
:)
Also inc idears such as strut braces if you think nessary.
Many thanks
Tom

knowing your budget would be best mate.
tbh i know you think that people follow the crowd in saying put a vtr/s engine in but thats becasue its tried and tested. you will have a better gain in bhp for cash ratio.
but each to their own

The skill level is fine, myself and my mums b/f are very at home with a car.
As the budget goes, i would be able to get most things with saving and buying in bits, so dont worry about that.
So any idears?

Find a scapped vts. Take the front wishbones, front antiroll bar, front strutts and whole rear beam. Whack it on yours with new bushes. 1.1s have small torsion and anti roll bars. A vts set will make a difference. It will also give you a 4 stud patern.
Get some decent brakes. 266mm of a 206 gti or 285mm of a 306gti6 depending on how big your wheels are. Fit decent discs and pads with braided lines and a decent high temp fluid. A 306 gti6 mastercylinder is a must.
As for the engine. I can understand wanting to stay with 8v but not in a 1.1. At least get a 1.4 block and build something remotly interesting. Do they even make a decent profile cam for a 1.1?

Sounds good, would it be worth while getting a 1.4 saxo, as a base car then?
If i could find a 1.4 saxo for the right price in blue i woud love that :)

How much will i be charged for all that from a scrappy do you reckon?
VtsTom

How long is a bit of string? Will depend on were you go and how much the scappy wants.
If your willing to change your car for a 1.4 is this thread not pointless?

I really dont want to change, as it more hassle than i can be arsed with.
Sounds stupid but i want the fastest 1.1 possible.
I.e. leaving block standard.

You could spend thousands on a shit hot cylinder head but then be limited to cam choice if you dont want to run high comp pistons as that would require block work. You could still run ITBs with standalone.... might push 100bhp? i duno i have never seen anyone tune a 1.1 that much.
Would be worth your while getting a decent 8v block and doing it yourself over time. CC will depend on your preference but there is some good gains to be had out of a 8v

So you reckon, get a 1.4 8v block?

28th February 2008, 15:47
If you want to stay 8v get a 1.6 Vtr or S2 106 1.6 rallye.
But unless you have done a dramatic amount, buy a bigger engined one & swop bits over!
