hi ya

I was told to start using some Redex in my fuel when i fill her up each week in order to help with fuel comsumption and help keep fuel tank clean etc.
However- another friend has told me NOT to use Redex. He said as my car is 10 yrs old it will do harm to some valves???

But have noticed it certainly does help with the Fuel comsumption though!

Wot do u all think about this ? does any1 know much bout Redex?

opinions gr8tly appreciated. :P

I dont know an awful lot. All I know is that it can be wise to use it once in a while, but if you use too much or use it too often it can be damaging. Stay in the middle of the two bits of advice.

aload of bullshit... this stuff cleans your fuel system and unclogs injectors.. keeps performance up so i dont know where you or that rubbish program 5th gear got that from tbh...

when i worked at merc we used gallons of redex daily.. they recommend every tank full 1 small shot of it but for use on my vts i use normal tesco petrol and redex every 3 months...

bish bosh bash

edit - just noticed the date when this was last posted.. sigh.. sorry all

I used some redex but it was blue (diesel redex), then the next day the fuel injector solenoid went. That was probably just an unfortunate coincidence though.

I'd definitely advise using it if you often drive about on reserve fuel seen as you fuel tank can get full of nasty stuff.

Hey, i use Slick 50, you can get a fuel treatment, and also an oil treatment, i useed both when i first got my saxo, and i found them to work really well, bought it from costco and it wasnt very expensive, but good! :y:

Will Slick 50 be okay for a diesel?

Ive just checked the box and bottle and the FUEL SYSTEM TREATMENT is ok for use with diesel engines also :y: and is ok with turbos etc, as for the oil additive, i could not be sure as i no longer have to bottle or box for that!

do you use the whole bottle of redex on a full tank?

Spanky
13th March 2008, 09:54
it should tell you on the bottle how many litres on bottle will be good for :y:

better off just using two tanks of v-power in a row every so often, was a test somewhere redex made fuel consumption worse :homme:

AdamH

lies all lies :) what do you think v power has.. and element the same as redex... if its ""proven"" to make mpg worse then why do big companies like bmw and merc use them for their services etc..

redex is probs the best on the market atm as well for the price..

1.29 for a small shot for 1 full tank every 3-4 months is all you need... rather then spending 1.13 a litre on v power

also note that you should always read the instructions, the shot redex bottles are for a FULL tank only otherwise you can damage the engine

there has to be some proof in it to make those claims tho.

to be honest im with you on this that a shot every now and again is good for the engine.

yep it works but you've got to be care due to the detergent chemicals in the liquid... it basically acts as a very very very mild abrasive (which is how it cleans the fuel system)... obviously if you dont dilute it enough you're going chewing some of the components down.

ads :)

as sayer said... mix a big bottle into half a tank and yourll end up foobaring the injectors and lines :)

tried and tested redex my self so not lies really is it.
V-power i seen a nice increase in mpg wel an extra 2.

never expect miricles. where did you read bmw use redex during services?

Redex is good stuff. Like its been said, don't expect miracles... But it really does work in my experience - car idles and runs a lot better.

well i worked for merc and my best mate works at chandlers bmw

you say you tested it your self.. proof? do you have diagnostic machines, to you strip down after a tankful to view what its done? i dont think so tbh..

at the end of the day it works..
fact

Redex will VERY slighty kil your mpg, as its not as combustable as petrol and obviously theres less fuel in the tank when you have redex in it, but i've used it for years on all my cars.

When i had my mr2 i used it every 4th tank and after 20k miles on a fully built engine on 1000cc injectors, they were as clean as the day i put them in, as were the other components of the fueling system.

follow the instructions on the box, dont overuse it, as the acidic elements will eat away if used too much :)

16th March 2008, 18:29
wont it only affect the mpg that trip cos theres less fuel in the tank? lol

RCD-Performance
16th March 2008, 18:42
Yes thats what i meant, obviously on your next tank of fuel, it wont be affected :)

AdamH
16th March 2008, 21:53
your talking about the smallest of ammouts.. 1 shot of it is only 50ml... your being picky now

16th March 2008, 22:52
Yeah maybe sorry, although MPG was mentioned and thought i would express my info there. As you say, it'll be a minute change in MPG and wont be noticable. However if you think using Redex decreases MPG, then you need to look elsewhere, i.e. the difference in the trips/driving styles of the fuel used in that tank full compared to the last for the answers as redex would not contribute.

only use redex only once every 200 miles other wise you will kill you fuel system
