To everyone who has or had a vtr, what do you think of the standard brakes, are they good, do you know of any which have failed. The thing is my mate had written of his vtr becuase his brakes failed and hes wanting me to get some brembos or something because he thinks the standard are crap, but i cant really be bothered to spend the money if standards are ok, what you think?

I think my vtr would slow down quicker if I cut a hole in the floor and stuck my feet out! I'd love to upgrade my breaks, just can't afford it at the moment.

there fine mate, get some mintex on and there fine

tbh if your mate is blaming the car then he is a fool, most crashes are down to driver error, was he driving like a dick??

standard are fine.

just got to worry wen the caliper bolts snap :panic:

just check the pads, disks, fluid and lines regulary and theres no reason why they should fail.

standard brakes are fine up to a point but i do feel they need to be better, particularly on the VTS

Na i dont think so, it was the insurance company who took away and inspected it to see whose fault it was. Turned out to be brake failure so no ones fault.

no mixed views here at all... haha

I drove my mates VTR and the breaks seemed pretty good, alot better than my Furio obviously....

If you have a decent ICE in your car i would do alarm then breaks...

If you dont then breaks.

LSOfreak
14th March 2008, 17:31

standard brakes are an interesting topic...

i used to own a AX GT, and the brakes where so bad the middle pedal felt just like the right one!

anyway now my vtr has ok brakes, there not very sharp at the top of the pedal ut i live in jeresy so no motorways! can only do 40mph!!!

anyone got any advise for the best brake upgrades?

i can imagine the goodridge lines are worth getting

cheers guys

Steve
15th March 2008, 12:41
there fucking shit! dont know how people think they are good? depends if you brake last min the realise they are not capable of doing that.

266mm brakes are a very very good upgrade should cost Ģ100 - Ģ140 to get them done! have a search. One of the best mods you can do imo

My vtr ones where pretty bad. When i got my vts it had new pads and discs, they were very good but i got a gti180 setup, i need better pads and discs on that now as theyre not that good.

So far i think my std vts ones where the best.

standards are ok if you dont want to do anything to your car....

I would upgrade to 266mm dics with mintex pads :y:

LSOfreak

So only upgrade the front discs , cos cant really do much to the rear drums

r3d_fac3d
15th March 2008, 15:36
a vtr has rear disks.... and yer the standards are shit, many of times they have let me down and set me off spinning away lol. i bought some drilled and groved disks and mintex pads to replace :A:

easy to fit as well, not as hard as u would think it is just take off the wheels and remove the spring retainer and remove two bolt round the sides which brings off the caliper then get a drill with the correct screw head on the end and undo ur two disk screws! then just do it back in reverse and once u done tht if u got pads there are really str8 forward, really obvious once u get the brake off and the rear disk is slightly diff but basically the same thing :y:

Performance Brakes
Black Diamond Brakes - never used
Brembo Brakes - excellent
DBA Brakes - never used
EBC Brakes - good
Mintex Brakes - shudder do a search not a fan at all tbh
Nitrac Brakes - never used
Red Dot Brakes - never used
Rotor Brakes - never used
Tarox Brakes - good

any of the above is better than standard (with the disk up grade for some) and some of them ive used with some with great results, others not so good !!!
