Hi there, new to this site, just regestered as a mate of mines got a 2001 VTR so a silvertop 100bhp engined model and we need some advice. he bought this manifold for it second hand.

its a GMC motorsport one made by piper. Anyways he got it and went to have it fitted and was told that it wont fit because it needs 2 lamba sensors and that particular manifold only has one. Now ive had a read up on the GMC website and it says that the silvertop engined manifold so a MK2 VTR which this manifold is supposed to be, replaces the whole cat etc. Looking at it should it fit straight on no hassle so this particular guy or garage is talking BullS**t and dont know what theyre on about. The Mk2 one needs a manifold to hold the oil filter or somthing doesnt it?

You'l have to excuse my saxo ignorance as im a clio driver:wink:

Anyone shed some light on it?

heres the GMC link anyway

and the stuff about manifolds

The newer engines do have 2 sensors .. the first one which you do need looks at the fuel / air ratio and makes sure the engine is running correctly.

The 2nd one is there only to make sure the cat is doing its thing.

You can stick it in a sleeve and tuck it out the way and it's fooled into thinking its detecting nice clean exhaust gases.

The manifold should fit without any mods to the oil filter (unless its one of the early piper designs) so its really just a case of knowing what you are doing.

The 1st lambda sensor which will be directly on top of the standard exhaust manifold will go into the hole on the new manifold in the first picture (directly above the lower flange).

The 2nd lambda sensor should be sleeved and tied out of the way.

and that whole manifold replaces the CAT doesnt it?

yeah you can buy those lambda sleeves from gmc website then you just screw the top lambda in to the hole and sleeve the second one.

I just fitted that same manifold to my 2002 vtr. It dosnt need any oil filter modifications at all fits straight on.
The only problem I had was the top sensor wouldnt reach the hole in the new manifold even when run down the back of the engine like some people suggest so had to buy a universal sensor and extend the wires and got a sleeve for second sensor from gmc motorsport site.
And it will de-cat your car mine is now a straight through pipe as already removed middle silencer so u will either hav to swap manifold back for m.o.t or get performance cat weilded in mid section but might cost a few pennies (thats wot im doin and quoted £200).
