right, firstly i appreciate that this is a saxo forum, but there seems to be a wealth of knowledge here so i thought i'd ask!

right last year a fitted a vtr engine to my rallye, the 3 plug 98bhp silver top one. to do this i fitted EVERY bit of wiring from an 03 model saxo vtr after a few issues it fired into life and has been fine for a year.

now as the idea worked i bought a 16v vts engine with unlocked ecu

and a FULL single plug gti loom for a single plug engine. with dastek plug.

i've fitted the loom inside the car with no major hassles. and got the engine in the other day. fitted up the engine loom and plugged on the loom, as i say its all from the same gti, car ran fine when it was crashed. there is no damage to the loom whatsoever.

we spent yesterday trying to get it to fire. there is no 5v signal feeds going to the coil pack, but we do have a 12v going to it to provide power.

today we tried the ecu on a mates gti and it ran fine. so its defo not locked (we used an unchipped key to avoid it re locking). we tried his fuel relay on my car too. no joy.

i AM getting fuel thru and the injectors are doing their job but no spark. so we decided to investigate the dastek plug (i dont have the dastek) and the way it was wired in meant that some of the feeds to the ecu had been cut! we undid the wiring for the dastekand put it back to how it should be! still nothing.

tried 2 crank sensors and still no joy

my mate has a snap on diagnostics machine but i cant get in touch with him right now as he's been at donny show all weekend. apparently this could tell us what isnt doing its jopb and isnt sending a signal to the coil pack.

also i'm tempted to take the loom off and get it checked out and all the wires tested for breaks etc. but i'll wait til the diag machine has been on it.

my last 16v conversion went on for 4 months before i gave up and bough tthe rallye. i refuse to give up on this one but i dont want to wait that long again. its got to get me to stelvio pass in july.

any ideas or suggestions?

dont give up mate keep at it.

so the engine is from a vts but the loom is from a gti?
did you check it for any breaks in loom before fitting?
did you have to pull any wires past/through panels (could have snagged a wire)?

everything went in smoothly mark, yeah engine is vts and loom gti, you have nooooooo idea how hard it is to get a full car loom engine loom and engine and ecu round here, well maybe you do as we're in the same town lol

every bugger just chops the engine out and has done. so i bought the engine off rickyp amd the loom off a mate in cumbria who'd removed it himself.

far as i know i havent snagged any wires but my mates loaning me another engine loom tomorrow to try in the hope it will plug in ok. then if it works i know its my loom. if it doesnt, i'm gonna get my loom checked out by a mate who's a sparky. its all a bit odd like

i had to get engine loom modifide to suit my car loom(the plugg behind the head light) a cupell of the pins wasnt the same.that could bee the problem

My mi16 would start today due to an unwanted plug rubbing on the alternator belt (fan belt). This caused it to short out, hence no spark! As soon as i taped up the plug it went!

Just goes to show that something trivial can stop the spark all together!

crank sensor, change your crank sensor and you should get spark

when i did my conversion i had a simular problem,

is the car turning over and not fireing? or both? Because my injectors where spraying, however i was geting no spart and turnover,

It turned out to be what alex said, my imob was playing up and i had to take it out, after that she fired up fine.

Also when you turn your key, on your dash does that battery light go out? then back on when you turn key back of. If so i know this sounds strange, But push start it, my vts somtimes does this and when i push start her she fires up and then starts first time everytime again.
