View Full Version : Throttle bodies - little pipes joining pairs?!

Noticed under my bodies there are two little pipes joining each pair of bodies, when the car misfires there are little flames going down the tube on one side.

what are these for? surely they cancel out the inlet pulsing under small throttle openings or something, feels like the pipes have melted though.
I guess it can't hurt if i take the pipes off and block the holes can it?

or are they a bleed valve for the idle? most bodies i've seen before didn't have them and just adjusted the throttle stop to set idle. wonder if it's something to do with balancing them. hmmm

hmm i wonder, mine on the inlet manifold i have bolts blocking a couple of holes.

would it be worth seeing if lewis has them as he has pts bodies on his longmans engine?

are they breathers for the rockers?i.e. a pipe goes from the rocker cover to the small pipes to let it breath/vent?

nah if you look underneath the bodies there is a little take off on each one, and each pair is linked by a small pipe.

I'll ask lewis.

Sure they must have a function, just wonder what.

if they are linking the pair of bodies, id be swaying alot more to do with making sure the pressure/airflow is the same ad balanced between the two.

nah there is one pipe from say body one to body two, then a seperate pipe from body 3 to body 4. and there's no way the tiny little pipe will make much difference to the airflow difference between two, i think it's something to do with the pulsing, either way it looks like the pipes need replacing :S

take it they are before the butterfly then?(trumpet side of butterfly) how youve said they are is how i thought they were linking the two bodies to a pair.

Nah they're between the valves and the butterflys :S

hmm surely that could drastically effect the pressure and airflow in the inlet then being that side of the butterfly.

any news back from lewis to see if his engine has them?
