View Full Version : Newmans mapped

Well the phase 3 newmans have been fitted to my VTS for about ten days now. Finally I got the mapping done yesterday down at Chipwizards.
But it wasnt all straightforward, the night before 08/04 a brake pipe burst heading home from the gym and resulted in a brown pants moment. So next day (day of mapping) I was up early trying to find a garage to replace the pipe earlydoors and quick sticks. I managed to get in to be fixed but there was no way of making chipwizards by 9.30. I rang Wayne and he was able to get it in later in the day.
So brake pipe fixed the journey from Newcastle to Rochdale was on. I got there for about 2pm and saw a diesel VW van go from 104hp to 151hp. NICE !!
Next up was my car the full spec is. Carbon enclosed ind kit, raceland mani, magnex decat, magnex system and Newman Ph3.
So with the mapping done it made 155.7bhp at the fly and 129bhp at the wheels. Driving the car back and it was so much better with so much more pull. Very happy with the car and would recommend wayne at chip wizards to anyone. Thanks wayne.:clapping:

Cheers fella, it feels loads better now mapped, flat spots gone and it idles really well too. The way it pulls is the best thing though. Very very happy

how long did it take mate? sounds very reasonable wayne does

Did he do a dyno run before he started the mapping? Be interesting to see the power gains that he got just from a remap.
Does your graphs have a AFR reading? Be nice to see the difference there too
AlexB
10th April 2008, 12:42
thats a healthy figure
is that map on the standard ecu??
i cant wait to get mine finished and mapped up!
i got a similar spec so should be somwhere close
saxo_ron
10th April 2008, 12:45
it took roughly 2 hours but we talked quite a bit throughout which slowed it down quite a bit.
Just checked the graph and no afr reading on there. There was no power run done before he uploaded a map that would be reasonably close but the first run made 120 at wheels and 148 at fly I think but dont quote me on that. But tweaking cam timing got the power up and the curve smoother

Wayne is never far out with his fuelling if at all
saxo_ron
10th April 2008, 13:27
He said the fueling was spot on and he was really happy with it. He strikes me as the type of bloke that if it wasnt right he will keep on working until it is. He was a really sound bloke

im running newmans ph3 had it on waynes rollers 157.4bhp an it pulls like a train as u will know saxo-ron ha ha what has he set the rev limiter at on urs mate
leeroybrown
10th April 2008, 14:10
Yeah Wayne along with Dave Walker is probably some on Britains best mappers
saxo_ron
10th April 2008, 14:13
Andywidds It revs to 7200 like. And yeah the pull in any gear is mad but when it hits 6k it just wants to run away. Got the hammer down a little bit on the way home and WHAT a difference!
andywiddss1
10th April 2008, 14:16
so the limiters still set at 7200rpm , im also running a 106s1 rallye box in mine its mental ha ha
saxo_ron
10th April 2008, 14:22
Sorry soft limit would be 7200 but it revs to 7800 - gets there farking quick too !!
Whats it like on xsi box? Apart from really quick? Are revs drops bad? Checking the gearbox sticky and apparently mine should do over 150mph.....wouldnt fancy that in a saxo like
andywiddss1
10th April 2008, 14:30
iv got a 106s1 rallye box mate not the same as a xsi box an the revs dont drop bad lst gear is abit low but after that its fooking quick ha ha im runing a valeo paddle clutch aswell
would like to try an xsi box in to see the difference

well im not going standalone as I have no intentions of taking it any further. Cant justify the cost of further tuning to myself.
andywiddss1
10th April 2008, 14:47
yep 0-60 in 5.9 sec was on standard cams an vts gearbox
im having another go on 4th may at yorkdrag way u should come down mate

Nice one mate! mines not long been cammed and it makes me smile everytime i put my foot down, loving it!
but after seeing the results of the west mids Rolling Road day meet id say waynes rollers produce slightly optimistic figures

how can u say that mate  most cammed vts with breathing mods normally show 155-160bhp on most tuners rolling roads so i would say waynes rollers are bang on
saxo_ron
10th April 2008, 16:23
could be that the RR you went to in west mids was out? Either way the figures I got seems inline with what others have got both at chipwizards and elsewhere.

Wayne's are generous. They are about the same as Jam Sport's. My car showed 164bhp of Jam Sport's rollers, then I went to a genuine RR and it showed just 142bhp.

I really dont think its right to be stating on a forum that one guys rollers are wrong and others are right with nowt to back it up other than your car performed differently on different days on different rollers.

Remember though Leeroy, just because I'm saying his RR gives high figures, that doesn't mean I'm slating his work - He does a damn fine job.

A lot to learn? Just because im new to this forum doesnt mean Ive not fully looked into saxo's or general car tuning. Im really not wanting to argue I just dont think people should make comments like his rollers are wrong.

maybe there rollers read wrong?
andywiddss1
10th April 2008, 17:10
for the people who have been down to waynes an talked to him they will see he dosnt just tune saxo/106 when i was down there in nov he had a bmw euro touring car in for mapping an a porche track car so im sure he dosnt need to inflate the figures to get work

Yes mate, he did a good job with mine, and I've upgraded a few parts since, and the bhp and torque curve is as smooth a baby's bum. ;)

iv read abit from that day an alot of the cars with breathing ect was showing
good power but the cammed ones ect showed not much more
also if u have to have people sat on the front of the slam panel to stop wheels spin how can u get a true figure :panic:

how much did you pay for the cams and mapping? if you don't mind me asking?
saxo_ron
10th April 2008, 17:30
well it wasnt cheap and my hand was turned by my head gasket going. So I got the head done cams bought and all fitted for £700 then mapping was £470. Not the cheapest but it runs well now

im thinking of doing this with my vts, almost exact same mods, is the difference from std to cammed alot ? as i cnt really afford to blow all that money for a small gain, was it really worth the cash?
cheers
