im probably wrong but does that show the vtr box on a vts engine will give you abit more mph in every gear?
164mph in 5th seems abit ambitious to me.
Like i said im probably completly wrong

Longer ratios = slower acceleration.
Only worth doing with a boosted car!

you need about 260 bhp to achieve that speed tho, nothing wrong with it if youve got the power.
on a normal vts with about 150 bhp, stay with the S box, vtr will kill acceleration in 5th, at the same time could be fine for motorway cruising.

It would "hinder" the performance, yes. ;)
You can clearly see that the boxes have different ratios in 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th gears. Not only that, the final drive in the VTR box is much lower too.
So the lower final drive will hinder acelleration, and the wider spaced gear ratios will also hinder acelleration as the VTS will drop out of its somewhat small powerband during gear changes.

You REALLY don't want a VTR box. Remember, a 106 GTI box is the same box as the VTS box. Also, a series 2 106 Rallye box / 1.6 106 XSI box are very similar to a VTS box, and a 1.4 106 XSI box is also a choice! The 1.4 106 XSI box is a really good box, as it has a higher final drive than the VTS box, giving better acceleration. All these boxes mentioned fit perfectly. :)
