on the way to cinema earlier and came over a crest in a 40,a deer was lying in the middle of the road crawling around, obviously just been hit. managed to avoid most of it but did catch it, destroyed half the bumper, offside indicator, washer bottle and arch lining plus a dent in the wing. any advice on fixing appreciated..... not happy but veryyyyy lucky as these things are big. i will get pictures in the morning! anyone else hit something like this? dam animals! ps does anyone have a silver bumper?

PICS FASTER :P

I've hit a rabbit. Didn't do any damage to the car but resulted in the person behind me crashing to the back of me and writing my car off. :fcuk:

You slammed on your brakes for a rabbit?

Jesus, did you never read the highway code? :boxing:

Must have run over hundreds of rabbits, had a few near misses with deer, possibly the worst animal to go near roads, they just run out at random :wall:

It happned a couple of weeks after my test, and yeah you get told loads of times not to stop for anyhitng but you don;t think at the time, especially at an early stage of driving :P it wasn;t the fact that i'd stopped. The fact that the person behind me was too busy looking at the twitching rabbit and didn't see that I stopped

Fuck knows why badgers are so much more solid than foxes, theyre made of the same stuff. I mowed down a fox at 60 before and thought I would have fucked the bumper, but not a scratch, which was more than can be said for the fox

I was galervanting down a country road once.... saw a rabbit up ahead on the verge. thought nothing of it... then the daft shit leaped into the road, bounced around a little right in front of me... left, right, left, right... didn't know which way to go... then as I got closer (hadn't slowed down at this point) the focking thing turns around and darts straight for the saxo, like some sort of fucked up chicken game. Needless to say our fearless, heroic bunny got fucking toasted by my bumper at 60mph of goodness.

I would have felt sorry for it had it not decided to run full pelt at the car.

This is a very strange thread, its a real mixture of people offering sympathy to the guy who hit the deer, both in terms of the suffering the animal itself and the damage to his car, and the other half who appear to be still at school or twocers who feel its cool to openly admit they enjoy killing animals while the mods trying and keep everything from boiling over. Who'd have thought hitting a deer would create such a turmoil ;) Im off to create a thread about homosexual muslim sucide bombers just to even things up a bit :p

Well this Is an Interesting thread.

To me, animals should only be killed deliberately if you are going to eat them, this is nature afterall. I dont think any animal should have to suffer for any one's pleasure though.

Ive read the whole thread, and to be honest, some people's post aren't surprising. I do find It Interesting though, I would bet that 90% of the folks that implied they have no conscience when killing animals, are no bollocks women who are afraid of what they might look like for caring for another living thing. For whatever reasons, society has grown to attach masochism with the characteristic of having a cold heart, which some people think they have to live by, to be a man, or someone worth being.

I think this thread raises an ethical question, as to what rights animals actually have, and how they should be perceived, as other living things. Now Im not going to say they have the same rights as humans, but this is purely because they are less Intelligent. Their minds work differently, and aren't capable of understanding things like we do, which means they dont have as deeply complex emotions as us. We can't imagine what they think, because are minds are so much more complex. If we are an Xbox 360, they are a Commodore 64 or whatever It was called.

So here's a scenario, what if a small retarded child, severely disabled, and incapable of most complex thought and almost animal like in intelligence. Does this mean he is moved down a category and doesn't have to be swerved for?

My point, is that the difference between man and animal is how we perceive who deserves more respect, and we base this on Intelligence, even amongst our own species. So If this border is crossed do things change? No. But why not?

Dont get me wrong here, Im not telling you to mow down retarded children, Im just trying to get you to think about how animals should be treated, but comparing them to a similar being, but in our own species.

I've never actually hit anything in my car-in my old sax I nearly hit a rabbit, was only doing 30-40mph on the most deserted road in northants pitch black at night, it was a single track road after I had stopped got out and looked under the car to find a very shook up rabbit under my sump ;) it sprinted off into the bushes after.

However I always check my mirror and speedo every two seconds (too cautious and alert maybe? Or just safe?) so when and if I do stop for whatever reason no one would be tailgaiting.

If I was doing 40mph+ and a rabbit/badger appeared I would steadily brake as to do less damage to the car upon impact. I do have a conscience though and would pull over to clear the road of the carcass/help the animal across :p

I remember this one, my Dad was there (Traffic Officer) having to sort out all the chaos. He said the carnage was pretty horrific.

so if you see an animal in the orad you casually look in the mirror and then if its safe to do so stop, oooo too late you thought too much about it and hit the animal im afraid :p

no you would have already looked as it says in the highway code your spose to look in your rear view mirror around every 12 seconds so unless you have a memory of a gold fish i think you would know if there was a viechle behind you.....but dont get me wrong if you pass a turning/junction/someones house a car might have pulled out in under however long it is to look in your mirror so then if a rabbit runs out its screwed...pah i give up ! :homme:
