So, headgasket has gone on my car, i'm reluctant to let it die and go to the scrappy as i just bought the damn thing and it's fun to drive. The bodywork is in good nick and the engine is in nice confition as the mechanic said... apart from the gasket obviously.

When it comes back what should i do when driving it? Be gentle with it? Will it be ok to drive normally straight away? First car and i bought a stinker, doh.

Also £450 sound about right to remove head, skim, and replace all relevant parts?

Thoughts?

but my vtr lump and gearbox for £350 with everything you need on 68k.

on second thoughts being your 1st car you probs wont be able to afford the insurance.

sounds about right by garage prices.

cambelt kit is about £60,head set about £60,head bolts £18. skim £40 and about 4-6 hours labour.

i would say thats expensive because id do it myself.

speak to someone off here about having it done, steviet15 is good, if you live near him.

Too late to ask someone on here as as i was talkin to the mechanic he was stripping it down lol... talk about getting straight onto it, only been speaking to em on phone 5 mins before!

I looked up Steviet but Fife in Scotland is a bit far to drive on a blown gasket :-p

Thought about investing in a VTR conversion but i think insurance would rape me, only been driving 2 months. How much is a conversion then? out of interest.
