Hi all, a customer has provided a 3 plug VTR, with the intention of converting it too VTS, unfortunatly, the engine is a single plug.
We looked at going down the route of adapting the single plug engine wiring loom to cope with the 3 plug interior loom, and that is still an option.
But as 106 gti 3 plug loom came up for sale we thought it would make life easier, unfortunately, after receiving the 106 wiring loom, it appears there are major differences in the interior loom. Also it appears that the engine part of the loom is missing, but i cannot seem to find the large plug which connects the engine loom to the interior loom ,there seems to be 2 smaller plugs instead.
Can anyone shed any light as to why? I was always under the impression that the 106gti/saxo vts used the same looms. with subtle/if any differences.
Many thanks for any help in advance, my lack of experience with these engines is not helping matters and it doesn't help the fact that people tend to mis/descrie there sales!
Obviously the easy option would be to buy a 3plug vts loom, plug it all in, and box it up! However try finding someone who wants to sell one :( lol

Nah for some ungodly reason, PSA decided to use different looms for the 106 and Saxo (must have added a bit onto build costs). Its a pain in the dick trying to mate the two, I dare say youd be quicker doing what I did: lay a full single plug loom into the car so the engine loom mates up. It really doesnt take that long once the seats and dash are out.

Yeah that was another option, and i do have one of those. Also another option is to buy a 3 plug engine, which would be the easiest way.

I wouldnt trust 3 plug ECUs, given the amount ive seen which have cunted themselves up. Also, the inertia switch getting triggered means a trip to citroen with 3plugs :(
There should be a few 3 plug looms +ECUs knocking about though, were quite a few regularly on ebay when my mate was last looking.

I bought a single plug 106 gti engine + loom - and had to change the loom to a single pluv vts loom, for it to fit into my MK1.
I found that, with the 106 gti loom, the engine -> car loom plugs were different. As you said, the 106 gti loom uses two smaller plugs, with the vts using one large plug.
Some people, I think, have used the old connector (vtr in this case) and connected up the single plug vts loom to the old connector, if that makes sense. So you have a single plug engine + loom, with a 3 plug main car loom.
Looking at it though, I'd either go with a 3 plug vts loom etc. or go with a single plug loom throughout the whole car. As changing the engine -> car loom connector (single plug engine, vtr 3 plug connectors, 3 plug main car loom) I can imagine is a pain to do, I've never tried it, but might not be too bad with the wiring diagrams.
Sorry can't help more, pretty much what Gabbastard said really.
I think you should just go for the option of splicing the single plug vts engine loom into the car loom, it's not that hard if you have the diagrams for both as the wires are numbered and it's just a case of matching the numbers up (sometimes the colours match but i've heard of some where they don't)

A agree sean, but i cannot find the diagrams, Not sure if they are in the haynes manual, mine has been lent out!
Do you know where i can get them?
Ross
Diagrams from the Haynes manual are in the FAQ section on here ;) click me (http://www.saxperience.com/forum/showthread.php?t=24339) Failing that just google the number on the ecu and you should find something.

id put the interior loom in to match the engine thats what i did when i did mine and i did it on 2 vtr conversions as said it doesnt take that much longer when you take into consideration tracing and cutting shutting wires etc to a direct plug and play

I agree, i have a 1 plug interior loom, but its currently in another car, so thats two lots of removal would have to be done.
Obviously time is an issue here

inertia switch triggerd on 3 plugs means trip to citroen? i haev just pressed mine to reset it.
RCD - you can use the engine with any ecu, dont need adn engine from a 3 plug car to use a 3plug loom and ecu.
i have done a 3 plug conversion before and it was a pain in teh arse to get teh ecu unlocked, from my experiance the need to be unlocked professionally. i tried the normal method in teh donor car, didnt work, then tried in the converted car with keys and immob, didnt work. car had to go to pug to get ecu unlocked in the end.
