Some of you may think that this is an obvious thing to do. I have recently been reading on a few threads about exhausts and such that this is not always a good idea because of back pressure?

Basically, i have a 01 plate vtr with the cat in the manifold and i have just put a supersprint race system on, so at the moment, after the manifold where the cat is it is just straight through into the backbox and out.

What would happen if i then decatted the car with a supersprint 4 2 1 manifold, some say it would get quicker, would i lose torque, gain torque? Benefits? Draw backs (if any)

Thanks so much

Would obviously fail MOTs so would be a wise idea to pick up a Mk1 centre section (for the CAT) to replace when the time comes. Will make it slightly quicker, nothing really that noticable. Will also make it louder, possibly too loud if PC Plod comes along. Will be more responsive at lower end revs, so slightly quicker off the line.

or if you got the money, get a sports cat ;)
mate works at motorbase, they tested the bmw engine with a decat then with a sports cat and said there was no difference.
apart from the price,de-cat for the low budget people lol.

A decat will give you better throttle responce really... probably a bit more bhp but like stated not noticable, another thing to note is the noise it will be slightly louder but it does depend on your back box! also with the supersprint fitted etc it will make the car 'bobble' loudly and when its all hot it will make it pop...

I'm glad I have a mk1 because decating the car is a 5min job... so wen i fancy a bit of rumble i bang the decat on lol, i mostly use the cat though cos atm the back box i have on is giving me nose bleeds its that twating loud!

ive got a magnex system with the sports cat. bit of a crap fit though, needs welding as its held on with clamps at the moment and is blowing.

When i had my Decat on the 1400 it was gutless low down, lost alot of torque, but high in the revs it made a difference..I wouldnt bother tbh, not worth the risk getting done by the police..

lol such a lot of mixed opinion tbh, who makes a manifold with a sports cat in for the vtr?? is this the best bet you all recon??

Agree'd, I took mine off as believe the potential hassle isn't really worth it. I have a 'dummy cat' decat, and it made the exhaust note sooo raspy, and seemed to help all through the revs, but IMO wasn't worth the risk and I'm sure it sounded pretty obvious I didn't have a cat to anyone nearby, but who knows.

mine is decatted and i have a magnex exhaust with no middle box and its not to in ya face loud and makes a nice note. It pulls nicely all the way from the bottom and is great from 3k and has a little kick at 5k. I dont have the problem with mot as i am a mechanic in motor trade and have contacts;) Speaking to other mechanics to it can reduce full consumption on steady runs but will increase it when ragging it?
