WHAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have just spent two hours on the bottom cam cover of my vts trying to polish it, I have done the 80 grade grit wet and dry, didnt have 400 so got 600 but havent really got past that stage.... There is lots of black dots so to speak. Someone told me this was called something like "oscilation" but it does'nt matter how much i scrub i just cant get the stuff out, they are soooooooooo deep its untrue. Any ideas or help?? Should i just buy some or get someone to do it properly, i want them mint just it seems pointless doing them to mine.
The "HOW TO GUIDE" says four hours for both in perfect mint condition!! NO CHANCE!!!!!!!!!!!!

ANGRY ANNOYED RANT OVER!

cheers

the guides does say "You must now remove the paint from the head covers and flatten the surface. There are a number of ways of doing this depending on what tools you have available to you. Probably the easiest universal method it to use an electric sander". Obviously if you don't use one it's going to take you longer. Even after you finish with the sandpaper you still have to use metal polish, this is what removes the scratches and swirls.

yeah try an electric sander mate, or if you get some proper polishing wheels for a drill and some wax you can clean them up and it gets all the shit out of the small scratches, dimples and you cant even notice them afterwards :y:

Ok will try it tomorrow again. Yea i did use an electric sander but its pretty pants, Do you know what i mean by the black "oscilisation" thou?? The swirls will came out with 1200 i assume. How much can you take off before it becomes dangerous due to heat ect..ect..

yeah i know what you mean mate.
1200 will get rid of the swirls and small scratches then just get a proper polishing wheel on it and they will be mint :y:
you can tkae a fair bit of mate, it would take ALOT if sanding to make them dangerously thin.

Tbh polishing isnt that bad, the black dots are pitting in the metal where air bubbles have been. You may have already worked that out but when doing mine i starded on low grade (rough paper) and got as many out as possible OK this gives deep scratches but there will be no black dots when finished, either way gradually work your way down from there and use wet&dry... dry then wet, wipe and autosol it. BINGO make sure you keep the surface reasonably clean otherwise all the shit will just go back into the scratched making it blacker and worse..

Oh rite, I understand now. I used an electric sander and caused quite harsh scrathes but then have rubbed them half out with 600. I was so annoyed yesterday but today i have a little better hope :)
