its not a saxo engine it is a civic 1.5 lsi engine with vti head (mini me conversion). me and a mate have been offered this engine and gearbox for free and thought as we both now very little about engines and how they go together etc we could learn on this freebie and if we pull it off make some cash selling it if not just something to learn on really. where is best to start and how much are we going to have to do realisticly. is it a matter of taking everything apart cleaning, renewing gaskets etc and putting back together? all helpfull advice welcome

Best bet is to take it right back to the inards and replace as and when! Always replace the bearings and then work your way through using new gaskets/piston+rings/bolts, also use gasket sealant to help and use a torque wrench for all stud/bolts/nuts. It's quite straight forward once you've got it apart, Have fun!!!

box's are harder than engines tbh get that back together are your getting somewhere

Might be a good idea to get the haynes book for the car it came from - should have a good step by step engine guide!

Also find some releavant Honda forums for info about the engine!

thanks for the advice. my mate has a 1.3 civic and is on all the forums. if all goes well we might try a transplant into his civic depending on if we can get the whole loom etc

measuring tollerances etc is the most important think, no use having new bearings if they're not a good fit ;)

plastigauge for the bearings, buy a engine blueprinting book will explain and show u how to measure all engine tollerences and adjust them

right we got the engine this afternoon and have managed to remove most parts. The rocker cover, head and sump are now all seperate. where do we go from here?

work from the outside in. belts off, flywheel & pulleys off.
head off(head bolts).
oil pump off, crank out, pistons and rods out

etc

try not to lose the bolts.....

took my R engine apart, ended up with loads left over, still ran though........
