Not sure if this is the right place to put but at the moment I have my 8v gti head stipped away to get it checked over to make sure it's ok before I put it onto my vtr with a few choice parts.

My question is what do I use to clean it, like the chamber etc etc to clean out all the oil, carbon and just crap that has gotten into it from being in my shed for a bit?

Cheers

Brake/Carb/Clutch cleaner is good for cleaning oil and grimy stuff away and it evaporates away as it dries.

U can use wood as a scraper when u soften the carbon up first, just dont EVA use a metal scraper... NEVER! An air line is also useful to blow loose crap out. Dont forget to cut the valves in as well as replace any rubber oil seals. Think about a new timing belt, tensioners, water pump... pretty much check and replace every moving part you have to take off to swap the head, if they look remotely suss. It will cost more but save u loads of grief later, and give u less time off the road! :y:

top advice mate. Will be replacing everything anyway. I don't cut corners on my car ever! If it needs new stuff or if things are in bits I will replace them no matter how much it costs. Got 8 valve stem seals and hte cam seal from citroen this week, 20 quid for just those parts. At least Dick Turpijn had the decency to wear a ask when robbing!

But it needs them so not worried about the cost really lol
