Hi Guys,

Did my 1st track day today and my car held up really well. Only problem was it started to overheat after about 10 laps.

I removed the grill and raised the back of the bonnet up to aid the airflow which helped to start with.

2 sessions of 20mins later and it started again.

Any tips of what I can do to cool it down?

Matt

water overheating or oil?

oil cooler,

bigger rad or larger fan, renew coolant

Had new coolant in (well water and antifreeze). Was the water overheating.

try fitting a second fan, make sure your fan is working also. buy a lower temp thermastat so it opens at earlier temp.

Yeh the fan is working. I'm half thinking the fan and all the plastic is blocking the rad. I don't think its the fan as it over heated whilst on the track but was fine after I came into the pits to cool it off.

try cutting the bumper out to get air in, take number plate off if its a track car.

Good plan, maybe put those holes across the front:

thats it, youll often see full on track cars do it as its practical and they dont care that there are holes all ove the front. there is a special liquid that you can put in the coolant to keep the tempeature down but i forgot what its called.

Sounds like a plan...If you could remember that would be great!

raising the rear of the bonnet can sometimes make things worse as the air is more tubulent under the bonnet

Shouldn't really overheat. Check the condition of the radiator. Could be worth reverse flushing the system

2nd fan will actually impede airflow to the radiator at speed

All the race guys suggested it and it seemed to work for a bit.

Might just replace the rad as its only £40. What tyres would you suggest for purely trackdays? Was looking at Toyo R888's?
