Hi all..
Been offered a 50k Mile VTR Engine from a 52 Plate, Chipped and cammed and runs sweet.
Comes with everything I need, however I've one small problem..
My car is a Mark 2, But an early one with the Single Plug ECU - His engine is a 3 Plug.
I know that is all fine, until the end of the engine loom where the big connector is different - Is there any type of adapter to enable me to use My Loom, but with his 3 Plug ECU?
Cheers

requires a rewre of the engine loom connector

Quite a job then - Suprised noone has done something to make it almost plug and play tbh...
Any other ways around it?
Or could the Chip be transferred to my ECU and then mapped with a generic map for the 98 Brake Engine? Surely thats just a cheap plug in and go job, as thats all they do with the chip - Plug it in and fine tweek bits...

why not just whack his head on your bottom end?
then get yours mapped?

Or cut the connector off your loom, then get the larger connector for the 3plug loom (but the car end) with a bit of spare wire on each then simply buzz the wires with a multimeter to find out which is which and connect the ones that do the same job with some soldering or insulated spade connectors (not ideal but dies the job)... instant convertor loom and will only cost as much as the female plug is from a scrappy

think the above is easyer said than done lol

its easier than swapping the heads imo... then again its also very easy for me to say since I've done it a few times lol

Didn't want to mess with the engine tbh..
Engine Cost
Headgasket Kit cost
Timing Belt
Water pump (As its apart)
Time / Labour of the car off the road being twice as long
Mapping cost
Works out a very expensive way around it - Quite suprised there aren't adapters for the ECU end that convert the single plug into a 3 Plug and Vice Versa tbh, Can imagine something like that being a good seller...
Or even one for the other end of the loom..

hmm might look into that and then make converter looms for the sites possibly if it works that is.. just how would buzzing the wires give you which one is which??

If they're like my Door looms, The wires may well be numbered, If they're the same on both looms then happy days, But there may be more or less wires on the newer loom?

yeah not sure about that but the numbers might be diff on each connector thats the thing and if one is wrong then it could all go tit's up will try source wireing diagrams for the 2 looms if there are any about

I did try - Its impossible! lol

you tried which bit??...
how does just swapping the head over sort the wireing problem out??
DavidKent

I tried the whole looking for wiring Diagrams.
Swapping the head won't sort that problem - You can swap some Sensors over so the plugs are the same as your old loom, that way it will go straight in - The only way the head would need to be swapped is if for instance say, the Throttle body sensors were different, as were the throttle bodies and the inlet manifolds, meaning they can't just be swapped between heads - Been there.
Main reason i wanted to change the loom, is because the newer ECU is obviously for the 98BHP engine and not the 90, and its Chipped and Cammed, all in running a lot more than standard BHP...
If its not an easy job i'll just keep the car till it blows up and VTS it..

yea that was my thought that the sensors on the inlet will be diff than the 3 plug. i might have a call round and see what i can find.#
could always change the interior loom??
the main problem is i have a fully rebuild engine in my garage and the wireing is holding me back, so might just get it finished off painted etc and just sell it and then buy a VTS or R with the right wiring
see what the next few weeks brings

Could swap the whole car loom - Massive job though just for an engine Transplant...
Unless you were tracking / saving weight and were removing bits of looms etc..

when engines are so abundant why give yourself the hassle?
