Hi, im pretty new to all this so please be nice...!!
I have a problem...I have a vtr X reg 2001 and have been told my engine has ceased. I rang citreon to ask about replacing it and to get pos engine codes etc, and was told that I have a sort of limited edition engine and components, a 100bhp instead of 90bhp, has any1 come across this before? I have been advised to get the engine fixed (rebuilt or something) and would like your advise on how to do this, good places to take it etc...!!! I live in west midlands so somewhere near here with a good rep would be awesome. At my local garage they managed to egt the car running but it filled the car park with smoke and they just told me I need a new engine. Sorry to waffle on...please help if you can suggest anything...
Jess
There was no limited edition saxos made.
There were 3 types of engines, two 90bhp ones and a 98bhp one.
No 100bhp one.
Just so you know citreon are on the same level of chatting bubbles as your local halfords is.
Take it to a garage near you that you trust, ask them to have a look over your engine and get them to give you a price to fix it. As you dont know much about cars and engines i suggest you take someone with you who does, such as your dad maybe? or your uncle ? or w.e As the garage could chat bubbles to you and talk you into paying for something you dont need.
When you say you got 'told' your engine has ceased? what do you actually mean? Does the car still drive? Whats actually wrong with it? Who told you your engine 'ceased' =\

Better of just looking for a second hand engine rather than getting it rebuilt as could end up costing more to rebuild rather than replace

dont have it rebuilt, get a 2nd hand engine, rebuilds are too pricey

Ive had a few quotes for 2nd hand engines, they range between £220 to £300, is that about right? does any1 recommend anywhere to get it fitted?
Thanks every1 for your comments, I dont know very much and my dad isnt around so just trying to figure things out by myself.

It's not seized, if it had then there would be no way of getting it to go.
Sounds like a fucked top end. Get it diagnosed by a reasonable garage (spotting a top end fault over a bottom end one should be easy enough and go from there
I would personally sort out the engine that's in it, though if you are replacing the engine get a re-con unit or one from a trusted source (AXO16V on the SSC is a top lad and a long standing member, I'd buy an engine from him)
Going for a cheap 2nd hand unit may end in tears if that's fucked too.

My normal local garage I usually take my car to arent being much help, Im not sure whether to get a 2nd hand engine cus it might just konk out in a couple of months. I just duno what to do. Just want a garage I can trust that will give me the best advice and know what they r talking about.

Hmm kinda tricky if you dont really know many garages.
At the end of the day, IF you did find a engine, it would take a half decent garage no longer than 6 hours to do a swap. Think your looking at £40min/per hour for labour these days depending were you go then +vat so your looking at £250 min just for fitting.
Theres a few about on ebay but as you say its a bit of gamble.
The braker that Dave mentioned is very well trusted. He will provide you with a engine that is identicle to the one you have now - no hassel.
Anyone got a contact number for her to give Tam a call?
If he has got any engines to suit your car, it will have had them running before he took them out of the car so you know your getting a good one.
My advise would be to pop back to your garage. Ask them, if you provide them with an engine, what sort of price are they asking to fit it? Anything over £350 and tell them to do one.
If you was to buy an engine of Tam, he could crate it up and have it delivered to the garage of your choice, all you have to do is drop your car of and hand over the cash.
Possibly the easiest solotion for you.

yea that sounds good, ill give the garage a ring and ask how much they'd charge to put one in. It's best to get the cam belt changed on the new engine isnt it?

Its never a bad thing. Cam belt kits with a tensioner for a vtr are about £45 were i get mine from. Piece of piss to change on a engine when its not in the car aswell. Might aswell do it if you can afford it at the time.
