Right, as far as car goes so far, supersprint 4-2-1 + supersprint race system exhaust.
Induction kit is on the way so i'm now looking at cams,
What do you VTR owners think of these? I have a mk2 VTR on an "x" reg i believe it is the roller type i need?

I would also get the vernier pulley also-

I do intend on remapping after fitting the cam, so what is the best cam i could get? Is what i have chosen a good option?

i was going to say if you go down the cam route you may as well get 285 degree ones if its power your after(also if you go any higher you have to start modding other areas of the engine to take it) , i wouldnt worry too much about the vernier pully as its not really needed but up to you

So i piper 285 is better than that kent one i put up, but i still don't have to start modding other areas yet.

If your pulling the head off to change the cam, you may aswell have some work done it. 8vs respond really well to a GOOD headjob. Save up an extra £5-600 and talk to people like QEP or GMC for a decent head. Will see some really good gains when you combine it with a decent cam. Again both QEP and GMC can advise you which cam would be best.
You will be advised to get stronger valve springs to suit the cam - think they are another £120ish
Once thats done you have a pretty good block that just needs some bike bodies :D

Great advice tom,
I have looked into a few things, been in contact with Cit-tuning, who said i could get a new head (take my old one as part ex) which is port + polished, gasflowed with a raised compression ratio (somehow?) Decent set of cams + remap
For £1400 all in, including labour, parts and the remap.... was quite happy with that what you think?
Only thing is i have heard there head jobs are none to special.... but i stil think that may be my best option.

Heard lots of horror stories from Ci-tuning so i personaly would stay clear.
That price is pretty good though.
Would want a new cambelt and idealy a adjustable cam pulley as standard vtrs are non-adjustable. While your at it, depening on how many miles your block as done i would whack in a new water pump.

wrong wrong wrong and wrong
285 degree is to much. pistons required the lot. piper 285 isnt a 285 degree cam
and yes you would want the vernier pulley to set the timing better.
also is alright saying have a head job but for the cost you have to ask yourself are the gains worth it?
dpends what you want

with regards to 285 cam isnt a 270 the biggest profile you can get with out having to modify any ofther parts?

Give GMC or QEP as they can talk you though it in more detail and will give you good advice.

I would reccomend:
Cams & Verniers
Piper Double Valve Springs, Stems and Seals
New belt and water pump
Remap
And if you win the lottery throw in a DTH throttle body kit before remap :)!

what would ci-tuning do to that had to raise the compression ratio's and what gains would you get from having it done?

as far as im aware mate theres a few ways to raise the compression, using larger compression height pistons, thinner head gasket or shaving/skimming the head itself.

oh and raising the compression allows the pressure in the head to be used better eg burning fuel quicker
