I'm after some help please....

I took my 2001 VTR for a service and when I picked it up it had an awful tappety type noise coming from the engine !! The mechanic said he had flushed the engine before replacing the oil and this must have shown up a bit of engine wear with the new oil in !!

Sounds like crap to me but what do you think ????

Cheers in advance

JC

That's what I initially thought but the mechanic said not :n:

It sounds worse when cold but eases off a little when warm

did the altenator belt get adjusted do you no because if its to tight it will make some noise when its cold but will gradualy go away or the wrong grad of oil could have been used because if its too heavy an oil it wont circulate as easy

your mechanic needs a kick in the fucking face the lying cunt.

either he has fiddled and fucked something, or he doesnt realise the tappets need adjusting.

fucking tosser by the sounds of things, hope he reads this tbh

My thoughts too mate... sounded sweet when I dropped her off and collected a bag of shite ... I'll investigate the tappets but not confident ... I've tried an oil additive but not made any difference..

:n:

new engine or new car I reckon .... :fcuk:

Alternator wasn't adjusted mate... he could of possibly put the wrong grade of oil in I suppose :panic: sounds like a friggin tractor !!!

if his flushed the engine and put the wrogn grade oil in then theirs no doubt in my mind its that causing it as its to thin.

find out what he put in their, also it depends on how many miles you done since after a while (120k or so) you can use a thicker oil to help as the engine is worn in (most commonly used of ford cvh engines and zetecs)

It has 74k miles on it now ... not a great deal for 2001 and last 30k have been mainly on the M18 to and from work... Never really been hammered :afro:

If I look at thicker grade oil what grade oil should I be looking for ?? :geek:

Sounds like the wrong grade oil..

You want 5w-40 or 10w-40 fully or semi synthetic..Anything else is not correct..

As for putting thicker oil etc in..DONT!!

Citroen dont say in the handbook after 120k miles whack thick oil in do they..No..

Always put the recommended grade of oil in the car and preferably the recommended brand aswell..So that means Total 10w-40 or 5w-40 is the best for the car..

Hmmmmm .... :ponder:

I'm getting differing view points here but I think I understand :afro:

I think I'll do my own oil change first and see what the outcome is...

Just a quick question:

If after the oil change I'm still hearing sounds of wear in the engine (as my local mechanic put it !!)
How much would it set me back to re-condition it, how difficult a job is it and what parts would be best to replace ... seals, rings etc ???

Hope all this makes sense ... I feel like this lol -----> :wall:

I'm still considering the part ex route but If I can recon it for cheap it may be the right option !!???? :geek:
