i have seen octane booster wich is £150! and says it will gain you 40 horsepower, there is no way this can be real can it? and do actane boosters make any difference? coz i put them in my car every time i fill up. ive only ever run the car on 97 octane fuel. does it make a difference?

makes no difference unless your running a high power car like a subaru or mr2 turbo.
ive got to use 97ron fuel in my mr2 and it makes the world of difference compared to normal 95 ron but its setup to run on 97 anyway with it being an import.
them octane booster claims are no way true imo. u wont get that sorta power from just octane booster

tbh on my cammed vtr. the NOS brand stuff does make a bit of difference and thats a £20 but i would'nt put it in every week. i only use to make the engine sound smoother.i use high octane fuel aswell.
i think it is down to brand cos someone gave me some free once magueirs or summin it was shite.

If your that worried about octane buy BP Ultimate 102 (http://www.bp.com/genericsection.do?categoryId=6621&contentId=7017179)

vpower and BP ultimate are only really needed on performance cars, not french box's....

is it just liquid oxygen, because that would give you a bit of a boost.
Then melt your engine.

Yeah, it might hurt.

the 114 ron is only to be used with cars that stay constantly at high rpm like 6000 and above so. pointless anyway.

The ron rating of the fuel has no reference to the rpm capabilities of the engine.
Race cars genrally run much higher compression ratios when compared to road cars, and when you mix this with the required ignition timing they require for optimum energy release, fuel with ron ratings such as 95/97/99 would not be of any use as the engine would detonate. If they were to use these low ron rated fuels, they would have to back off the timing so much so to stop detonation, that they would lose a great deal of power. So to say that this particular racing fuel or octane booster gives 40+ horespower, is actually a fair comment.

so it mite actually be true? thats amazing, still wouldnt spend £150 on it.

Good thing, as it would make your Saxo run a lot worse than normal.

F1 Cars rev to 19,000rpm, are 2.4litre and 8 cylinders making around 780bhp.
They run on Pump fuel like us.
Octane is not for "high power" cars, it's to assist in the prevention of detonation, and to allow (particularly turbo cars which run hot) to have reasonable ignition timing.

i find the esso supreme fuel is better than shell or bp plus it cheaper. well round here is it better anyway.

I'm not clued up but isn't it the MON value that matters more than the RON??
Doesn't it say Saxos run best on 97 RON? I've just been sticking regular 95 stuff in.
My 'lude was an import so ran best on SUL, got way better mileage too. Tried Optimax + octane booster once but noticed no difference at all.
