Ive got a 2001 2 tone VTR that is spot on apart from the recent tappety engine noise that a local mechanic says is engine wear and unfixable

I've looked at buyinga VTS but am also considering just throwing a VTS lump in it as its still in great condition for its age...

How much do you reckon it would set me back going down this route ??? would you just buy a VTS ??

Any members in the Yorkshire area that has a decent engine ??

Cheers JC

If you can fit the engine yourself then it's pretty cheap, just the cost off the engine and box ect which I've seen go for around £400 recently.

Otherwise your looking to pay fitting on top which can start from £400 upwards.

700 quid is a good start if you know the right people but id say hold at least 900 so you can service it,cambelt , water pump etc!

With the prices of cars at the moment, surely it would be cheaper to sell and buy?

If you're happy with the entire rest of the car, then swapping over to the VTS engine is arguably a sensible approach.

You know the suspension, brakes, panels, history, and are just fixing an existing problem.

You may well buy a VTS which needs a cambelt and engine service (£150?) and then maybe it'll soon need some other consumables like tyres, discs, pads, clutch? You are soon up to the cut-over where you wished you'd kept your pride and joy.

Just the other point of view for your thoughts ;)
