Dont worry i have searched on this but couldnt find it, and patiance is very short. I thinking of getting an S lump in, sorry about the questions but im so confused over this........
I know its called Engine Control Unit, but is that all it controls ???
Also wandering if i just take the ECU out the donor car and just plonk it in my car will it work ???
And what does Unlocked Ecu mean, And do i need an unlocked ecu ???
thanks scott :y:

ok unlocked means it wont require a signal from the immobiliser transistor, so it will work in your car.
your car will have a different immobiliser code to the one the engine came from, the transistor is in the ignition barrel and the receiver is in the key etc.
the ecu controls the engine, timing and fuel.

You'll need to swop the R's engine loom for the S's!

cheers frankster did you use all of that when wiring in yours? also isnt that for a vtr???

no......
youve got a mk1 vtr, and youve got a mk1 loom (right?) well basically unscrew the vtr loom (near the passengers headlight) and then attach vts loom.
if you've not got a mk1 loom i have one, you could purchase if needs be

turn on ignition in donor car, unplug immobiliser. then its unlocked. do this before you remove the engine though.

what if i dont have keys for the donor car ?? (engine brought as a sepearate)
Can i do it with any vts ECU ?? and would it fit any vts engine as it would be unlocked ???

evu isnt coded to engine. its coded to the immobiliser. so if you havent got a mtching ecu, keys and immobiliser you will need to send it away to somewhere like bluehawk electronics to be unlocked.

one more question, lol,
if i find a VTS that i can turn the key and unlock it, will the unlocked ecu work on any other VTS engine ?? (e.g p reg to a w reg)

yes, its not the engine its coded to, its the immobiliser. you will need to remove immobiliser from the car its going into though. otherwise you will lock it again.
if its singleplug ecu, it will only work with single plug loom. same for 3 plug.

Yup, the ecu will be now immobilissreser (sic) free!
Make sure that the car its to go in has had the immb box removed or it will relock itself!
