Hi,
As some of you may be aware i am starting a VTS turbo project. Well, i have got the car (bought it tonight). Basically, i got it cheap because it didnt have MOT. The guy i bought it from put it through an MOT hoping it would go through but it didnt. I have the MOT failure sheet and the Advisory Notice. The only advisory's were front tyres wearing on the edge, and the driver's seat is loose. Well, thats simple stuff and they are only advisory's.

However, i have just been looking on ebay for a CAT and there appears to be 2 types. One which sits under the chassis (half way down the exhaust) and another one which sits just after the manifold. The switch over date from one to the other is 1999 according to "CATS2GO" website. Does anyone know what CAT mine should have (it was registered in May 1999).

Thanks

How would i be able to tell if it isnt fitted at the moment? Its got a 4 branch manifold and a straight through exhaust from that back, so how would i be able to tell where the cat should go?

All Vts have the cat under the car, its the Vtr that has the cat in the manifold on later ones!

Oh sorry, I did miss that bit off my first post, I do apologise.

It seems there are split thoughts about where the cat is situated on VTR’s and VTS’s in general. My last saxo was a 1999 T plate (not sure what date it was registered but it was the same year and plate as my VTS) and I had the cat removed from that, and I know for a fact that was under the car.

As a side thought though – As I will be adding a turbo to the car, would it be best to put the cat under the car anyway? Does it make a difference where the CAT is positioned, especially when taking the turbo conversion into consideration. I want to put it in the best place ready for the turbo conversion because I wont be MOT’ing it before I have fitted the turbo / rebuilt the engine.
