I dont know what all the names are for the parts so if this sound wrong dont have a go.

iv just found a hole by the catalyst converter near the senser on the down pipe of my exhaust so i was thinking would it be cheaper to get a 4-2-1 manifold fitted then to by a standed one, being that it will need a new cat cos its in the manifold?

if i did get a 4-2-1 monifold would it fail on the emission test for the MOT because that would mean that i would only have 1 silencer on the car.

any help would be us full.

It wouldn't fail for definate some saxo have been known to go through, although it should fail the emmisions test. You could put on a mk1 exhaust and have the cat underneath the car instead of on the manifold!

Yes would prob be cheaper to fit 4-2-1. But you would need to put cat back on for the MOT. Definatly worth it though

so should i get the 4-2-1 but put the cat under the car in the center pipe?

4 branch manifolds are around the £200 mark I believe, and a replacement CAT is £33 (if your car has the CAT near the manifold, which by your description it does). So, a replacement CAT would be cheaper and also mean it would still go through the MOT.

how much am i looking to pay for a standed manifold with the cat in it?

That seems to be an option (although I am not an expert). However, as I previously said, the cheapest option is to replace the existing CAT, and then you guarantee the emissions will be OK for the MOT

If you have the money, the best option would be to use the Mk1 exhaust which has the cat under the car, and fit a 4 branch manifold. If you fit the CAT with exhaust flanges you could unbolt it after the MOT and replace it with a length of straight through pipe. Then you would have a straight through system all year round and be still be able to make it legal for the MOT. Your choice, but that’s the most expensive option.

After re-reading your original post, it sounds like you have got a hole in the manifold rather than in the cat (or the pipework directly connected to the cat). I don’t know how much a standard manifold would be, but I am pretty sure the manifold and CAT is not one piece – I am sure they join, so you would only need to replace the piece which has the hole in it.

£1703.07 + VAT for a CAT!? That’s £2001.11 including VAT! Would anyone ever pay that for a CAT? Check out www.cats2go.co.uk – may not be genuine but only £33 for the manifold one, and £55 for the under car one. Can’t believe that figure!!! Shocking!

What i am going to do is get a manifold for around £140! buy a new gasket for around £15 and fit it myself! it doesnt seen to be a hard job!
the worst tha could happen as i can see is if ther manifold bolt snap u need a new head! and thas a bad job! so just use plenty of WD40!

No problem mate. They also do offers for Sax-P. I'd take a look in their section on this forum.http://www.kamracing.co.uk/club-discounts-63/106-owners-65/raceland-4-2-1-exhaust-manifold-for-8v-saxo-47.html
