I got the K&N 57i induction kit.. It's basically a cone filter that sits on the throttle body.. right on top of the engine, and it comes with a bit of tube so you can direct cold air up to it.
It sounds quite nice.. but i'd imagine it decreases performance, imagine the heatsoak. From what i've heard with a 1.1 you're better off with a panel filter and the standard airbox.
If not you could probably buy a universal cone and some silicone pipe to make yourself something. Or use pipe to link up a raceland enclosed kit or something like that.

I found a picture of the K&N kit for the 1.1 spi on google...

Try and find a kit that will place the cone as far away as possible from the engine... mine lives down in my passenger wheelarch for a reason. And before anyone says 'so you can hydrolock your engine when you go through a puddle'... doesn't happen. ;)

Have you got any pictures of your engine bay.. I just read something about your custom induction kit on here about 10 minutes ago.. I'm intrigued.
I've recently considered buying loads of silicone hose off ebay to make something with...
I just wish i'd kept all my original airbox :(

All I have at the moment are some shit pics of the prototype development model I was running for basic driving characteristics. This was pushing out 72bhp with a rough interior on the silicone and, ironically, a K&N 57i cone :P

And a video of ze noise it made.

The new kit, the final development model, allowed me to connect to the crankcase breather, had a smooth inner lining on the silicone and the cone used is pretty much the same size as an umbrella... :P

As soon as GSR's workload goes down I can speak to the head honcho about Saxo kits, but I have no idea when this will be- probably around Christmas.

That looks pretty funky.. and sounds like you got quite a decent gain in power.
Looks like that's a mpi 1.1.. not sure though. All i know is it's a bit different from mine. My Filter sits right on top of the inlet manifold. It's essentially the one in the picture above. I've considered making something with the standard airbox, i'm just missing a small plastic ring that fits on the throttle body and allows the airbox to fit. Without that ring it's a few mm too big each side.
I'll probably try making something at some point. So long as it's really cheap to do.
I'm planning to put a new (and bigger) engine in next year.. so i'm not too concerned about it right now.. and i'd rather put money elsewhere.

Looks like you've probably done the best possible option though, i'd definitely do something very similar if i had money..

If yours is a blacktop SPI, I'd recommend you wait and then dump either a VTR or VTS lump in there. Personally I'd pick the VTR as I have an 8-valve fetish, you can really beast those engines up- so many gains to be had with quite a few cheap mods!

I'll get some pics up of the finished article at some point, it sounds amazing under load and has actually helped improve mpg- cruising at least.

Yeh, if you check out my progress thread (I'll warn you it's quite boring, nothing happens and i have no money) basically i have no money at the moment, or none to spend, so until november i've set myself the target of spraying and fitting a VT kit to the car. Doing all the work myself. Then i'm going away for a few months, coming back and then i'll have loads of money to spend on it. So from March next year i'm planning a full 4 stud/read disk conversion, complete with a bigger engine. I love the idea of a 16V but i think insurance will hold me back, so an 8V is probably more realistic.
The point about the mpg is interesting though.. This fortnight i put a full tank (£47ish) of petrol in.. and i'm hoping it will last till payday... on thursday. Totally irrelevant that.. don't know why i said it. Anyway.. i want better MPG.. might try to get standard airbox back on and working. Think that got the point across quite well tbh..
