ask them for a labour only rate and get the parts yourself.

might save a few quid.

Or get a haynes manual and teach yourself :y:

Source a Valeo clutch kit (eGhey etc.) and take it to them or shop around for other quotes from garages. Labour should be around 1 1/2 hours so price varies on how much the bastards charge.

Good luck dude :)

They sound like cowboys or just have pretty remedial skills with a tool kit mate lol.

Clutch kits cost around 80+ if you go with the above mentioned but it might be worth looking outside of the area a bit and comparing quotes there.

If thats all in using decent parts and not second hand refurb shiz then that aint too bad as the new clutch should last 40k+....if it aint abused :p

its expensive because they have to take a fair bit of stuff of just to get to it. And a gearbox is heavy

Why not get one from the scrappy and do it yourself using Haynes?

bollocks to it taking 4 hours at a garage thats just bull.

took me and my dad under 3 to do it on the road outside his house and that was goin steady and forgetting to put the starter motor wires back on etc.

Where i work, they say about 4 hours to do a clutch, its because of what you actually have to do. Take battery out, undo engine mounts, undo gearbox itself, take it out, not the lightest of things in the world, then take clutch out, put new one in and realign it and put it all back together, sometimes you have to drop subrame, undo lower arms etc. Lots of work involved, had one in and out in 90 mins before though. That was a ford though. Did flywheel and slave on focus today, was over a grand bill

as said shouldnt take 4 hours, took me 5 to do mine when some mates done it, but that was because we chatted alot, had problems with 2 of the bolts not coming out, waited half hour for a mate to turn up with a blow torch to try get the bolts out, still couldnt, so got angle grinder on them, then went to b n q to get new bolts

one hell of a fuck around rolf

lol some of them garages are def takin the piss.
My clutch went last week, phoned about n every garage quoted between £120 n £140 just for the labour. Getting it done now for £100 labour by my da's mate.

Clutch went at the start of the year n my ex got an mot tester who does stuff in his spare time to fix it. Cost £60 4 the clutch and £60 to fit it and change the gearbox and engine oil :D.

Labour is expensive because the gearbox needs to be dropped to replace the clutch!
