the job i do atm is civil engineer, but i am starting a part time degree in construction management next wednesday. the course is 4 years which will take me till im 25. I just had a look at jobs abroad and came across australia as it seems popular. and i could earn 170 thousand dollars a year there with my degree. here i would earn about 50 to 60k.
just wondering if anyone could move there? and would they wanna leave everything they know behind for cash?
cheers :y:

This came up last night in the pub. My friend has been approached by a company to live down under. A good handful of my mates have lived abroad and stuff for the summer but every one still said no.
I would love to move out to Dubai or something but i dont think i could do it, as much as dicks my mates are and how much i hate my lifestyle atm i dont think i could just pack up and piss off.

I personally couldn't move abroad for the simple fact, as much I hate life over here - Paying Tax, weather etc it's home if you know what I mean.
Friends Dad moves to Abu Dhabi (sp) on Sunday to be a Director of massive oil company, but she doesn't want to go so is moving in with her sister.

I fully intend to move to Aus or New Zeland once ive graduated.
I dont like the way this country is heading, even before all this recession stuff started.
Id much rather be an immigrant in a country where they are strict about who they let in, and where the prime minister actually has the balls to say what the whole country is thinking rather than pussy footing around.

Seriously though both my Mom and my brother moved to Australia and said coming back to this shit country is so depressing.
They'd both go back in an instant.
Brothers still got loads of stuff over there.

The wifes best friend moved out there 3 years ago, they lived it up for 6months then she became pregaz with there third child. They came back to the UK and had nothing, no job or home. They sorted that and she had the baby.
Shes waiting till the yougest is 6 then they will be going back out. Since returning shes started to study to come a nurse and her husband is a sparky now for my mrs dads company. That way they can get easy access back into the country.
They loved it and cant wait to go back.

I could move abroad tomorrow but I have a good job so don't feel I want to take the risk, as I may not be able to earn as much if I moved away. Although my GF was informed yesterday that she could have a job tranfer to NY in 6 months time for 1 years with the possiblilty to have a full time role out there. We have been discussing the offer all night as she get put in a flat for the first year for almost nothing and we both love NY.
The main problem is I don't think my GF can leave her family for that amount of time.

What are you going to do in Spain mate?
I would find it hard out there, I would need to go somewhere that speaks English.

2nd October 2008, 09:58
Takes a strong minded person to move abroad and be all on your own from day one.
Me personally I wouldnt leave for good....would try it for 6months and then come back. See what a decent job here could offer me....if not I would pack up and leave again.
A decent city job here and a penthouse flat would suffice me.....50-70k a year and I would be happy

well il be at altea which is where they live, near benidorm, and theres loads on english there.
I can walk straight into a job next day after im there, which is telesales, her 2 sisters do it, ones on 400euros a week and the other is the one getting me a job becouse her bf is the manager. Its an english call center btw.
Also her dad does sky instalations (self employed), and he said i could work with him, they get 400 euros a job, n id get 50euro to start with, for 2 hours work, which is okay i guess.
i dont speak a word of spanish, and tbh i dont really need to over there, BUT i want to learn it anyway, would feel rude going to another country n not speaking it.

i know someone that did that, i used to work with him, and he moved to mainland spain, and they dont have cars, get around on horses everywhere lol. But then he fell off his horse n broke both his legs n arms. But he said its loads more laidback, even though he was working. A holiday and earning, not bad eh :p
he was spanish anyway, so it isnt quite the same for us english yobs.

theres a program on T.V about moving to australia or staying in the UK, i think if the money is decent then why not? You can always visit back here aswell, also depends wether you have a misses or not.. if you have then it will be difficult to move away, unless she comes with you..
My parents are moving to cyprus in february, me and my sister have a flat organised for when they go, we had the choice to go with them, the only thing that is holdng me back is my job and my friends, havnt got a girlfriend so that wont cause a problem :P
who knows i may decide later, i know one thing though, free accomodation in cyrus for me! :D

I was goin to move abroad. but then realised where I was goin did not really have a good selection of winter jobs. due to working in the entertainment side of things I look around for those.
furteventura is where I was gonna go.
£250 a month for apparment
but then living costs food etc etc was not cheap there so I efused to go there and basicly live on fook all over the winter! so im planning on goin over next summer to dj there and then dj in Corfu 'greece' for a bit.
I actually had everything planned ready to go told all my friends, family old station I used to be with, left community group things (like carnival committee) and other stuff.

i want to move to spain im lucky because i no that my mom will come as well, she used to work in the pool industry and knows a lot about the chemical side of things and has a lot of contacts in the industry. Would be easy to set up a company dealing with the ex pats out there. also my fiancee is in the ambulance service and would also have no problem with work just need to learn the language better.
