Right...

I am not all that keen on the black and i am looking towards some form of colour scheme....

The rims will stay silver however in the distant future may go anthracite if they get scuffed up etc....

What would be the best colour to go for on my car...

The bits that will be coloured are:-

calipers
front chevrons
rear badges
rollcage when it gets fitted later this year...

I was considering a darkish blue maybe??

As i have blue citroen sport badges...

Or would i be better with white? a bright colour, grey/anthracite kinda colour?

Please help me in this pickle...

I want to go and buy some paint and do the badges today :)

Cheers

do it all mercury grey matthew

that was the sort of colour i was thinking of going for, then when looking for the paint my girlfriend came across a metallic blue...

that has been applied to the car ;)

i think it looks sweeet

going to bosh a few more coats on yet though...

The wheels are really nice, suit the car really well, and are nice in silver too! As for the badges I'm not overly keen on them matey, baby-ish blue doesnt suit it that well, like the ideas though :y:

matt_vtr_15
11th April 2009, 19:29
cheers lads....

it is quite a light blue but it does match the citroen sport door badge well which is what i wanted....

only thing is i think it would be over the top if the cade was the same colour... along with the calipers...

may have to go a shade darker for them

11th April 2009, 19:31
Needs something bigger to go with the badges for them to work?

Why didnt you just do them all black? :P

would a rollcage do the trick?

i did black mate...

was tooooo boring imo needed to stand out a lil more..

Karl
11th April 2009, 19:44
Why do you want it to stand out though?
its a stock VTR almost (it's your car - your choice at the end of the day)
Perhaps callipers and a rollcage in that color,
you'll need bigger brakes though than stock as Neon blue is a bit lairy for 247mm's ;)

i want the badges to stand out... have the black of the car along with a strong other colour as a contrast...

car wont always be standard karl..

have to get there at a steady pace... i aint so minted...

Nah, thats cool mate.
As I said, its your car, your ideas.

Just think they look out of place (as was the red)
without bigger additions in that color on the car.

Yeah i do see your point mate...

Bigger Additions will come, and will run with the colour of the badges....

Cage
Harnesses
Calipers

Just wish it could all be done for FCS....

That is looking unlikely unless i get a mahoosive pay rise...

The car got measured up yesterday so a halfcage design can be done, hopefully the hoop will be knocked up this week and then have my car in the garage for a day getting the rest of the cage bent and fixed...

So i should have a cage in before FCS fingers crossed..

Going to have the cage in silver for now, therefore going to put some standard silver badges and chevrons back on...

My main plans are now....

Rollcage fitted and rear stripped
New badges
Bucket Seats & Harnesses
New Exhaust

Just a little update...

Cheers

here are a few quick piccies of the cage, it's not finished in those pics just when we where profiling the bars and sorting mounting positions...

this week the x piece is going on the cage along with some harness bars which will span across the hoop...

then it will all be fully tig welded and welded into my saxmachine..

it is also getting powdercoated this week so need to decide colours..

I am getting some samples of different blues tommorow...

thinking a light blue to match badges... or subtle and black??

i don't know....

Comments?

Bear in mind it's not complete in the pics just to give an idea..

Nick anthracite would look good i think... i would feel inclined to spraying the wheels anthracite as well though :(

your wheels are begging to be painted baby blue like the badge. I know its been done on vts wheels but think it would look even better on your wheels. cage same colour as well....wat you think?

I think that would be too hardcore for me, want to leave the rims. Could be a possibility though in the future.

cage and standard seats??

bit odd tbh
plus whats the deal with bolt in going to the beam mounts it would have been easier to just go to the floor and tbh youll get no extra from going to the beam

still doesnt look like too bad of a cage

NICK2506
2nd June 2009, 11:04
hmm i reckon anthracite badges, rims and roll cage....although the roll cage in anthracite may be too subtle.

you could alternatively do wheels anthracite, then the badges and roll cage in baby blue..

i don't know why it goes to the beam mate..just how it is i guess...

standard seats for now, however jojos brother has some sparco corsa seats he wants to get rid of...

so i may get those... it is just trying to afford what i can when i can mate...

Nick, that sounds like what i will probably go for, eventually will anthracite the rims and then stay blue on cage and badges and maybe calipers...

bit of an odd way to brace the cage up

id at least brace the rear legs to the b pillar hoop to stop them flexing indepentantly if you brace anywhere mate

not critisizing it im just pointing out like
it would be beneficial imo
but tbh bracing like that on a half cage is a bit odd as your keeping the rear of the shell solid but leaving the front to flex about still

sorry i probably sound like a right knob lol

alex, that is fair enough mate...

it seems pretty rigid to me though but obviously better still if braced in the way you said...

it will do for what i want though :)

the hoop is fixed to the car at the bottom, this should stop flexing shouldnt it? i may be misunderstanding though..

could always bang another couple of tubes in if need be though, as that resource is there :)

Well FCS is fast approaching and i still have a few bits i would like to get done before showing the sax..

Get Cage fitted & painted (This Saturday)

Tidy up the plastics on the exposed floor as i have painted it black as it was scratched.

Buy & Fit ew full exhaust system or backbox atleast as mine looks gash.

Repaint all badges and put them back on car.

Take off all wheels and give a damn good clean.

Buy and fit new bucket Seats and harnesses to put into the car...

This way too much of a list to tackle before FCS mainly due to money issues... will hav to see what i can pull out of the bag...

materials and a bit of labour, as it was my gf's dad and allowed him to get the measurements for any orders to be laser cut....

the total cost i am not sure until saturday

thanks mate, i thought so to.... they have done a cracking job

it's in for powdercoat today so should be in for saturday :y:

Yeah i think so too mate, can't wait.... got the car prepped as i have painted all of the floor matt black which should contrast really well!!

Should i spray my gold towing eye blue?

as it is on show in the middle of the floor (as it usually is under the seats which are removed)

Why is the rear hoop so far back ? not in line with the B pillar

Why is this mounted so far back on the rear seat & not to the car floor as a safety devices / sparco cage is ?

Cant wait to see pics of cage in the car. Should look sexy, are the badges staying blue for FCS then?

BMS_Engineering
4th June 2009, 18:02
Hello from BMS Engineering,

We are the company who have developed the bolt-in rear cage, and we appriciate the feedback. We supply WRC, BTCC teams, and are confident we produce some of the highest quality Roll Cages available in the UK, see www.bmsengineering.co.uk for more infomation on the company and the saxo rear cage, under the roll cage link.

Just to clarify, there is no need to brace the main hoop to the backstay, these will not 'flex', as the rear of the cage is mounted to the farmost rear suspension mounts, which is in-turn is braced by the rear beam (and as Matt says the main hoop is also bolted to the floor). The only need for such tubes would be if the roll cage had no suspension interface, ie bolted to the boot floorpan or wheel arches where the chassis is weak.

The reason the roll cage bolts to the farmost rear beam mounts is purely to cater for adaption for future developments, such as full bolt-in or weld-in cages for motorsport applications, where the rear beam mounts are subject to high loads, especially with solid rear beam mounts.

Finally the reason the main hoop sits behind the B-pillar is due to the main hoop being mounted on the raised section at the sides of the fuel tank crowling. Which is a double skinned-stronger section over the floorpan, although we could possibly adapt for the production units if this is what people want.

Cost and further developments will be updated at the weekend

Thanks again
BMS Engineering

Cheers for clearing that up phil. BenjaM yeah the badges will stay mate and tge towing eye is going blue to.

AlexB
4th June 2009, 21:58
however the floor pan on a saxo will flex
bracing it would stop that flexing and be beneficial

hence my cage has them
as do cages by other companies such as omp and the old sparco cages

allthough i just read you mount onto the higher floor
thats a pretty hard place to get bolts to without removing the tank
and if you weld it will be putting a lot of heat above (and therefor if any weld drops) straight onto the tank which imo is bad

im not slating the company as i think i have seen some of your cages before
but im just not a huge an of the design of this one

anyway there are a lot of different ways to look at cages
and i think in this case me and bms are on 2 different pages on what we think is the best way
i dont fancy starting an in depth convo in your thread as tbh its not what your threads here for

Cal
4th June 2009, 22:02
Good the cage is going blue... :y: black would be a shame imo, stealth for sure yada yada but its nice to introduce accent colours on the car using it I think. A few people said I should have done mine black... so glad I didn't.

BMS_Engineering
5th June 2009, 11:49
The roll cage has been analysed in detail through Finite Element Analysis, the forces required to deform the Backstays are far beyond any load the vehicle will experience. A brace such as the one stated would add very little in terms of strength, I can provide FEA print screens to prove this?

And yes, I would recommend the fuel tank is removed, as I would when any MIG welding is taking place on a vehicle.

Thanks
Chris, BMS Engineering

not sure until tommorow mate however around £350 for the lot thats materials, welding up the cage, powdercoating etc..

it is a bit less if you remove the seatbelt bars and then even less if you remove one of the diagnols and a seatbelt bar...

i primered and matt blacked the floor before it was put in so that it looked a bit fresher. But now i need to tidy up the weld marks and bits where the red is showing through the black... nothing major just want the cage to be set off by a tidy black floor lol...

cage looks good, not a fan of the blue badges or chevrons though, did you not consider painting the floor before installing cage

either way, i think the colour of the cage really suits the black car

matt_vtr_15
7th June 2009, 22:09
If you look in the suspension section of the forum there is a thread regarding these cages with all relevant prices and info!!

Good lad fordy they are spot on!!!

Ashleyp i did paint the floor pan hence why it is mattblack, before it was a grey colour. I just scratched the paint etc whilst chucking tools in the back! Badges are ok for me as they are a similiar match to the cage...

Been thinking.....dangerous i know!!

If i carpetted the floor of the saxo would this look good as it would look more tidy or would it look out of place because of the cage?

The option is either

paint matt black and leave stripped

OR

Carpet the floor pan to give a crisp look...

I am unsure really...

Carpet or paint colour will be black as i think blue may be too much...

Any comments?

I don't want a false floor as it will add even more weight...

This week due to the nice weather I am going to sort out the floor pan and tidy it all up after work...

I really need some advice on what is best to go for...

I was thinking of the following:-

-chequer plate ? (tacky i don't know?)
-carpet in blue or black?
-leave it with the stripped out look and tidy up the paintwork a little?

and should I leave the rear doorcards off or knock up something to cover them such as thin ply with a finish to match the rest of the floor?

I really don't know what will look good or tacky... help?

Any ideas appreciated...

I was thinking that mate, I am going to use some speaker carpet kind of material which is workable and then carbon doorcards would set it off ;)

I don't think so mate, think it was a shitty universal one because the centre pipe had been chopped it was a proper bodge job.. Thats the exhaust that came on it though...

Luckily my dad has a few spare saxos in the yard to keep me going until i get the supersprint race pipe...

even with magnex's the centre pipe has to be cut down otherwise the tail pipe sticks out way to far :y: so could have been a magnex.

i would assume it will say magnex somewhere on the backbox or tail pipe or have a code imprinted in it which would be a magnex code.
