hi guys,

just got my first saxo yesterday, its a 1998 vts.

just wondering if some things ive noticed are normal?

1. when starting the car from cold, i can drive up to the top of my drive no problem ( i live on a back road so ive pretty much gotta pull out my drive and go, no arseing about ) i can then pull out onto the road and when i go to accelerate it kind of dies, then picks up power after maybe 1-2 seconds and its off. any ideas behind this? TB need cleaning maybe?

2. when starting the car from cold, its makes a pretty loud high pitched whirring sound from the engine, but it drives fine, and once the oil level guage or whatever it is comes up a little bit the noise disappears? i though it was maybe a knackered timing belt but its looks fine and was done not too long ago.. anyone know what this could be?

apart from these 2 points once the oil thing comes up its drives perfect, pulls amazing threw the gears and goes like a rocket!:fcuk:

just annoying not knowing what it is, or if its funked.. its only got 35,000 miles on it and it was a old lady who dad it to nip down the shops for the last 8 years so is totally unabused

any though or ideas would be muchos appreciated :)

cheers,
ally.

my vts has some rather annoying flat spots, starting to get really annoying tbh. with ur car mate regading the flat spots try giving it a goog service and running some red ex through it. it might help

i hope you are not trying to drive the car hard when cold, that will kill and engine in no time.

imo, its probably down to the fact its cold....

The high pitched squealing could be the fan belt slipping.

The flat spost could be *anything*. A 'normal' VTS is mapped very conservative under 5,000rpm so doesn't pull that well, and then goes well after 5k. Should BUCK or TUG or SHUNT though, normally just a little flat.

As above - good service, filters, plugs, check the sensors and everything.

yep :(

on occasion very rare mind, mine makes a horible noise when starting as though metals rubbing with no oil :(

I reset my ecu actually and cleaned sensors on my throttle body.

That got rid of my cruise control/rough idle and flat spots.

Was when i stuck standard backbox back on.

im not tryin to boot it from cold, its just when i go to pull out onto the road its hesitates for a second and then its fine

i let me oil temp gauge lift at least quarter of the way before even thinking of giving it some.
