View Full Version : Sub 6 second vts??
Coonper

This sounds like a bit of a noob/twatish question, but here goes...
What sort of power would i be needing to get a VTS to hit 60mph in under 6 seconds? Totally standard car, not stripped out, standard wheels etc.
Im not interested in "theres too many variables", just an estimate really...
I understand a cammed/mapped VTS with zorst/filter can get circa 150bhp @ the fly, but how quick will this make it??

Hi mate, Correct me if Im wrong but doesnt a standard VTS do 0-60 in about 7.5 and it seems quite a big jump with little mods to get it under 6 secs. Well Im thinking of getting a VTS Soon and do some mods so I will see what I can get 0-60 I doubt it will change that much! Anyway Gud luck:y:.

Although it is possible, the guy asked for a non stripped car, and andy had his light as feck iirc ;)

i got a 14.2 in the wet with a cammed vts, procomp induction, full exhaust inc 4-2-1, and a bit of head work. not mapped properly though.
oh and it was completely stripped out....completely

The mr2 costs a fortune to modify! Lol! I mean £700 just for an exhaust!:fcuk:
Although i am now attempting a turbo conversion on mine! Hello 245bhp!:D

How on earth can a clio beat a 245bhp, rwd, rear engined sports car?
And how can you say mr2's are more common than clio's or saxo's? :S
Either the clio had loads spent, or it was a shite mr2. My n/a mr2 eats vts's and is only just nipped by clio's on the straight. The mr2 turbo's are getting into evo territory and will also take a standard wrx.
Then as for bends... I can leave pretty much any front wheel drive car for dead (in the dry).

Although it doesn't answer your original question Coonper, for a Saxo to do sub 6, 0 - 60mph, the 3 most important factors in order of relevance are: Weight, grip and gearing. If you're going to get a standard weight Saxo to do a sub 6, then you'll need a LOT of grip, and it will need to be putting down a lot of power, probably around 185+ I would imagine...

FYI Non turbo 0-60 is 8.9s, Turbo MR2 0-60 is 5.7. That is standard from new
If yours is a non-turbo at the moment VTS's will kill it

Incorrect im afraid...
n/a 0 to 60 is 7.01 secs (from santa-pod)
turbo 0 to 60 is about 5.5 secs
VTS is about 7.5
You do know that the n/a mr2's are 170bhp dont you?
Dont want to get into an arguement as to which is better, as im never gonna win on a saxo forum! Lol!
I suppose in essence if i want something that is quick and handles well it cant be front wheel drive, as they cant put the power down? And it also needs to be as light as possible...
Thanks for the info guys.:y:

Bit random... Lol!
Expect to see an increase of around 3-5bhp from the exhaust.
Sports electronics means naff all though. Standalone ECU? Ebay-go-faster-chip? Piggy Back ECU? Super chip?

i did run 0-60 in 5.9 and true the car was fully stripped but there was nothing
dubious about the timming .as it was done by an independent timming company called tsi .that time swimming meetings and athletics meetings not the normal york timming gear  im sure u would need 180bhp/190bhp to get this sort of time if u dont wanna strip the car

According to www.letstorquebhp.com you'd need 173BHP, IF the Saxo weighs 935kg which I think it does...
Power at Flywheel (BHP) : 173
Weight without Driver (KG) : 935
Power to Weight Ratio (BHP Per Ton) : 188.00
0 - 60 (Secs) : 5.99
0 - 100 (Secs) : 15.40
60 - 100 (Secs) : 9.41
Quarter Mile (Secs) : 14.42
Terminal Speed (MPH) : 96.77
Drag Strip Quarter Mile (Secs) : 14.22
Drag Strip Terminal Speed (MPH) : 98.51

This is my estimate. Makes pretty good reading... :)
Power at Flywheel (BHP) : 160
Weight without Driver (KG) : 790
Power to Weight Ratio (BHP Per Ton) : 205.78
0 - 60 (Secs) : 5.65
0 - 100 (Secs) : 14.54
60 - 100 (Secs) : 8.89
Quarter Mile (Secs) : 14.09
Terminal Speed (MPH) : 98.43
Drag Strip Quarter Mile (Secs) : 13.89
Drag Strip Terminal Speed (MPH) : 100.22

Mate, a standard VTR will NOT get to 60 in 7 seconds! No way on this planet.
More like 9 seconds.
143 bhp at the wheels would be 110-125 at the wheels.
Also, remember, the speedo's are about 5mph out at 60, you cant do 60mph in second, so that means another gear change and you cant be accurate with the stop watch on your phone with your mate peering over at the speedo...:n:

I got 0-60 at york (which is ment to be quite good timing equipment) in 6.9sec and 1/4 mile in 15.3 sec in my vts, thats with a induction kit and de-cat with full interior so i think a stripped cammed vts should be able to get sub 6 sec!
EDIT: no short shift either.

mine was an estimated 190bhp. and it was through some twisty aswell as a straight.
and isnt there 3 different non turbo models (power hikes on each one?)
im guessing the turbo one around here is a tad shit tbh to lose to a clio on a straight. I would'nt of expected it to keep to me in the twistys, but the straight i was surprised.

No, there's quite a few LEDs that you need to change. Roughly 13 or something close to that.
Ah, I just realised, as that was shot in the day, I didn't have my lights on... All of the dash comes lit with blue, identical to the clock that you can see.

with an 8.5k rev limit theoretically i can do 60 in second, although with the s2 it just hits over 100 in 3rd... where as the s1 would have been about 87.
s1 would have given me a better in gear performance in theory but didnt want to risk it.

With 8.5k limit? Oh yeah, it'd hit 60 in 2nd easy. I think @ 7800 it gets to around 58?
100 in 3rd? Nah, my stock GTI box tops out around 90/95 @ 7800. The S1 tops out roughly around 80 in 3rd.
