hi, just wondering what is the lightest any body has been able to get their saxo down to? i want to keep the interior and dont want composite parts is there anything else i can do to make my saxo lighter, except remove the spare wheel which i have already done.

If 106s count as theyre the same shell etc, a guy called Bic would probably win I would think. Whole top 2/3rds of the car is either composite or carbon fibre iirc. Have a look on SSC, theres a thread on him every other day there lol

any idea on how light it actually is?

TU-Tuning

Dont think anyone does yet mate as its being rebuilt, again lol. The guys a nutter always doing more stuff to it.

The speed ring saxos will be the lightest, but theyre not really saxos anymore. Like the ones that get ragged round dirt tracks, just a chassis, engine and rollcage with a fibreglass saxo looking shell on top

End of the day, the biggest improvement weight wise per pound is just plain stripping parts off of the car. Any further, your talking big dollar

yep, its a machine. But hes spent about 65k on it or something, think his rear suspensions worth 8k alone, the box is coming onto 10k. Big monaes

i was thinking billvts' which now don owns i believe?

bics will be light, but he has wide arch kit on, that will make it heavier, unless he has all that carbon. also he has wide track suspension, im guessin it being a bit wider with the bema means it will weigh more?

plus the 2ltr engine in it

bills is crazy light

Bics car isnt light. His cage weighs a ton and now the new engine is in well...

Id look more at brads (don55) thats light, was owned by a weight saving freak before :P

mines pretty light, but i'd say a safe bet as to the lightest would be bill_vts/dons car. that was obsessive weight saving!

would say bills old motor
iirs with half a tank was sub 750kg
and ryan don55 is the guy whos got it now

was cammed too so around 215bhp/ton if im working that out right

hopefully my westcoast will be damn light

mine will be light, has no dash, 1 seat, carbon bonnet. cut out all of the shite in the doors like bill-vts ;) and out of the rear hatch, tank is coming off and having a smaller ally fuel tank.

once its moveable and has the polycarb windows in, im taking her to the weight bridge ;)

When im done id like to be in the top 10 lightest road legal saxos. Not long until i get back onto streamline about getting my car in. Hopefully by late Jan it will be getting the roof done, then if im happy with that the doors straight after.

youve gotta know what the top 10 are first
tbh there are a lo of cars not on forums that are heavily moded

tbh your better aiming for a certain weight (like i want my westy sub700 and my vts sub 800 (thatll be hard with a 5kg cage))

Ive got a MK2 R with Spoox Carbon Bonnet, fibreglass boot, polycarb rears, fibreglass seats, its fully stripped and all un-needed mounting points are gone along with spare wheel + jack etc, 15" OZ Super Ts,no cage, 5kg battery. All of the plastics have been cut down to look the same but flap about at high speed :), no speakers or HU, Lightweight flywheel, crank pully. I think thats about it for the light stuff.

I dont know my cars weight and tbh i couldnt even guess, fancy a stab of before and after estimation?. Then i can get on track with a target,at the moment ive just been going for ultimate reduction on everything.

The Future: Carbon Doors, Roof & OMP lightweight cage or Ricky P custom cage depending on weight. Then the pain in the arse task of sorting the nuts and bolts :/.

no one will get a saxo/106 under 600kg's without some serious spaceframe.
i think with a vts engine you could possibly get around 750kgs. but the 8v engines are only around 30kg lighter at max.

im aiming for 800kgs all in,(thats with composite panels etc etc)
but hopefully be around 380bhp/tonne ish at the end result...(not for a little while though)

my car weighs in at 810kgs at the moment for people who want to compare.(see my prgress thread)

Wow my Mk2 Golf with a 2.0 16v weighs less than most majorly stripped Saxos

My VTR is 860 kg at the moment to the nearest 20 kg. Probably not far off standard weight to be honest lol.

how heavy??(golf)
what have you done to get it that light?:P

The Golf is 800 kg on the same weighbridge as the Saxo so could be anywhere between 790 and 810 kg (i think thats how it works). It started off as a 1.3 shell which with a 1.3 engine in it weighs 845kg, the 2.0 in total weighs around another 40 kg including the bigger box. So I've actually only shed about 80 kg, not that much I guess.

It's totally stripped out, sound deadening and underseal removed, fibreglass bonnet and wings, plexiglass windows, but has 2 Corrado seats that will eventually be replaced by buckets as they weigh a fucking tonne lol!

sounds cool mate, you dont often hear of golfs being as light as that. its a shame as the next newer shape after yours got a lot lardier lmao.

Yeah the Mk3 did get quite heavy. My Mk2 is going to get heavier when I've got some cash as it really needs to be caged.

I had a Mk2 Polo that is 700 kg standard - that's a proper light car! lol, still held up well when I ran out of skill.

at a guess id say you just spunked 1500 quid per door in your future list

tbh if your going that light youll need some seriose tyres as with that little amount of weight on them they will have a very small contact patch unless you run rather low pressures

there is such a thing as too light

look at most cars running composite panels (ala bics 106 as an example) they have a rather large cage in the car
thats why they go compsite to compensate for the cage

for example my vts (aiming for 800kg but tbh that prolly wont happen) has 55kg of cage in there
that means that for the standard car id have to get to 745kg
i have see a vts with a 6 point cage down to around 750 but that had been butchered

best example of what im saying was my 1.1 i had
it was stripped down to nothing and wih 5 lads could be picked up off the floor (no idea of atcual weight) but in hard braking (only had vtr brakes on it aswell) it got rather lively out back as what little weight was there lifted off the tyre
was locking the rears with a drum beam

ste - what do you mean by all plastics have been cut down, look same but flap bout high speed, cant work out what you mean?

im not too arsed bout getting mine as light as possible, i think cage and headlining may come out at some point, but thats about it, maybe fibre glass bonnet at some point but in no rush

Front bumper has pretty much no plastic behind it, and is only mounted via the two bolts in the chunky bit. No arch liners, trimmed under side skirts Alsorts lol. The rear is going to get sorted over chrimbo hols which ill get up in my progress thread.
