i am wanting to fit cams to my vtr, and whilst im there do the cambelt and water pump.
basically what do i need, locking set, belts, general sockets. how does the tentioner on a 90bhp silvertop work?
Any guides available?:geek:

you want need cams matey, just a cam ;)

im sure there will be a guide on here some where mate.
as for tools, you will need a range of spanners and sockets.
a full set will suffice along with ratchets etc
timing belt, tensioners,
never done one on a vtr before, just helped out with vts's.
you will need a dti to clock the cam in as well.

yep, you have to lock the crank so the pistons are at tdc or top dead centre, then set the cam to the recommended lift.

you lock the crank by fitting a pin, or long series allen key into the flaywheel from the block side of the engine ;)

it explains it all in a haynes manual, good by and help if you dont already have one ;)

standalone is the boy ;)

mite as well fit new lifters, springs and valve oil seals, new head gasket, head bolts, cam seal etc.

ok thanks alot, dunno about the HG and valve oil seals seems alot of work and money, where abouts is the locking hole do you know?

oh yeah and as for the cams do the just undo the bolts and it comes off or it there a special routine?

its all in the haynes manual mate ;)
they come in really handy, step by step guide with pics as well ;)

its hard to explain where it is, i will try and get a pic for you ;)
