View Full Version : Storing an engine in a gargage..

My plan is to buy an engine and then keep it in my garage so I can work on it, just doing stuff like clean it up, new headgasket etc.

But I'm no whizz kid with engines and I'm a skint uni student so I'll only be able to buy parts when I can afford them so I expect it'll take me 6 months or more to get the whole thing done, so my question is:

Will the engine still be ok to use if it hasn't been run for 6-12months? Or could this cause me problems with stuff seizing up? Any other advice I might want to think about?

Thanks :y:

will be fine aslong as its not started rusting up already. if your rebuilding it your be stripping it anyway.

I won't be rebuilding all of it though, just the head probably and giving the outside a good clean up and paint to make it look tidy.

just put some fresh oil in and it'll be fine.

yep fresh oil, take the plugs out and turn the crank over every now and then for 5 mins ;)
