just wondering how anyone has informed the dvla of their engine change (for mot purposes) if they changed the engine themselves but have no proof of it like me?

Just found this on the net:

"You’ll need to tell the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) about the following changes to your vehicle:

colour
engine
cylinder capacity
fuel type (propulsion)
replacing or modifying the chassis/monocoque bodyshell
seating capacity
weight of a goods vehicle

Change to engine and cylinder capacity (engine size)

DVLA will need written evidence of any changes to engine number and cylinder capacity (cc). Written evidence can be:

a receipt for the replacement engine - dont have (RCD was doing it for those in the know)
written evidence from the manufacturer - dont have
an inspection report provided for insurance purposes - don't want this done yet*
written confirmation on headed paper from a garage if the change in engine size took place before you bought the vehicle - engine change was done after

*an idea jsut came to me, does anyone know if you can get an assesor to come out from a random insurance company rather than my own. cant get insured on it as a vts the now for decent money so gonna try again after i'm 21 in april

If you want your engine asessed then take it to a good garage & pay them to do a written report for you.

does it make ur insurance go up by a huge deal when you put vts in a vtr?

It really depends on your insurance company, things like NCD, convictions age what postcode you live in etc.

does it mean a vtr with a vts engine will be same group as a vts, or higher?

so if you drop a vts engine in a vtr, you keep the cc the same. dosnt matter about the valves doubling up?

mine is going in as a pre cat engine ;)

the vts is insurance group 14 the vtr is group 7 and the major difference between the 2 is the extra 8valves so i'd reckon it will go up.

have tried my old insurers (elephant) and they wont insure me with the change though they can insure me on a vts no bother...

havent got around to phoning adrian flux or brentacre yet to see what they say.

the engine number isn't part of the mot though so it should pass that hurdle ok.

I insured mine at 19 with 0NCB wen i put a vts engine in a westcoast - was £1400 with Adrian Flux with other mods declared like lowering, brakes, exhaust etc.

a few years ago my insurance was £700 fc on my vtr, and £900 with the vts engine droped in.... i got a quote on a normal standard vts and it was £1200!!! so it was cheaper for me as i did the conversion myself, if you pay a compant to do the swap then it may be cheaper to buy a vts in the 1st place....

I read in a magazine a while ago it wouldnt be as much as
what engine it is say a vts as the base car isnt actually that
car so not as much. dont know how they work that out or
whether it true or not.
