furio that im looking at has got 103,000 my current 1.1 has 44K so its quite a put off. is 103K near the end of its life , its 2002 and very little service history.

a 30k car can be in worse state than a 130k car.

it depends on its life

i reckon they can go as long as anything, its all down to how its looked after imo :)

as said above depends on how its been driven for the 103k. if its been regually serviced not raced around and treated well who knows how long it will last.

but as you say little history so maybe better off looking for another one. unless its very cheap :D

Not only does it depend on the service history but how and when the car has been drove is the key to the mileage, my car easily does 6k plus in motorway miles each year which is nothing. If that 6k was just driving down the shops every so often the engine would be far more wasted.

But don't just take the sellers word for it.

my 106 tripped 152k the other day

if maintained right engines can go indefinatly
ive seen cars go pop after just a few miles due to bad maintanence

its just a case of how well looked after it is really

cheers guys , well because of the service history and its got a few mods so could race been raced around abit in it life i think il leave it as its not amazingly cheap. just pissing me off still having to wait for the perfect car having missed out on two that would have been perfect.suppose it will be worth the wait.

I would personally never buy a car over 80k miles, yes, I know cars can go a lot longer etc but it's just a psychological thing on my part, I look at it as, the more miles, the bigger the chance the car has been abused, in a crash etc

of course, there is always exceptions :)

although very low mileage and low cost is not always good, it might be too good to be true. i was looking at one that was quite cheap very low miles i thought bargain, its only when the brother of the seller let slip on the phone the car was cat d and had been repaired with no receipts i realised it wasnt a bargain lol

my vtr has 124k on it and the vts has 94k, they never miss a beat.
i always look after them and only use good quality oil and filters, i tend to change it every 3months where i have been away much or not.
just force of habbit, new plugs every year as well.

my dad always did the same and it has rubbed off on me.

as long as you let her warm up before giving her some beans and look after her, you can have them going forever (fingers crossed).

mine only really do motorway miles, furthest i go to is taking my lass to work 20 odd miles trip each way, twice a day (when im home)

Low miles is not always good.... bought mine with 55k on but because it had been stood for most of its life it needed welding to the chasis when it came round to the MOT!

im on 118k now, had it since 93k and its going just as strong if not stonger than when i got it. Regular services keep the engines happy :)

Doing a thorough service in a few weeks:

Injectors
Spark plugs
Fuel filter
flush out engine
fresh oil (obv)
already done fuel filter
gearbox oil n filter
clean the inlet aswell

It not worry you guys that you might not be able to sell up at 120-130k as easy as sub 100k etc?

AlexB
28th November 2008, 11:19
im not selling my gti so no it doesnt really

i know of several cars that have high mileage
but if you can see how well maintained it is its no problem to shift thm for a reasonable price

My first car was a ford fiesta with 46k miles, i thought it would be good because of the low mileage but it had been abused and i think sat for a long time, i had nothing but problems with it. Over heating problems, head gasket blew, etc.

My saxo vts has almost 85,600k on it now with full service history, i've recently changed the oil and oil filter along with new plugs going to do fuel filter, flush the coolant etc early next year. Its running fine no probs what so ever :). Go Citroen!
