Quite hard to exlain - but I'll try my best.

This always happens when I'm sitting roughly at 2000-3000 revs, whether I'm sitting still and just applying the accelerator, or if I'm moving and just going up and down gears. The noise has a slight grinding, and crackly kinda noise.

I thought it might be the gear linkage rattling, or the heatshield...but its the wrong noise for that smileys/smiley5.gif

It doesnt seem to be affecting the drive quality - but its not a normal noise and I can sumtimes hear it over the exhaust so its very audible!

So I'm confused!smileys/smiley13.gif

any help welcome smileys/happy.gif

not the exhaust knocking on the gear linkage is it?

not the cv boot?

sounds like the exhaust heatshield is rattling against the gear linkage.

im certain its not the gear linkage mate

and if it was the CV boot, would it only make this noise at certain revs?

hows the gear linkage/heatsheild problem cured?

is it just a case of wapping out a grinder/large hammer?

get a lever bar, crawl under the car and move it away from the linkage. if it was the cv joint you'd hear a clicking noise when going round corners. try driving round a roundabout and listen for it.

if it was the gear linkage would the noise come from either side of the car? cos its louder on drivers side i think

not sure tbh. that's the first thing i'd check for anyway.

sounds silly but if the gear isnt in propperly it can slip out and cause a crackling noise... check the gear linkages like the other said.. had a bloke a few weeks ago with this problem..
