i have a 2000 saxo vts and have a stage 3 flowed head going on soon including new head gasket and im running piper 285cams , i was wondering what process i would have to do to run the new head in. should i do this on a rolling road or just take it easy for a few hundred miles and slowely build up the revs. is there a process to running in ? i didnt want to damage my new head.
thankss

Someone I know done it by building up the revs each 100 miles, i.e start at 3000rpm max, after 100 miles go to 4000rpm etc etc. Is a lenghty and boring process but worth doing

It would depend on the head it self and what they have done. Where are you getting the head from and what work was done? If its just a ported used head there is no real problem. Always best to at least have a early oil change after taking a engine apart.

Thats how they run rally cars in i read sumware lol, dont drive it 100 miles like that on a rolling road just sumhow controlled to rev at 1000 for so manny hours 2000 3000 4000 5000 n so on

spot on. describing as stage 3 is too vague. Is that headwork without larger valves? . Post up what work was done and we'll be able to advise better.

Was the cam fitted at the same time?

A stage 3 hiflow-heads cylinder head has the following:
Head is crack tested prior to modification
Cylinder head is skimmed to optimise the compression ratio
Inlet and exhaust valves are re-lapped to their corresponding valve seats
Inlet / exhaust ports are fully ported to optimise gas speed and port velocity
The addition of anti-reversal ratchet on the inlet ports
The addition of high flow, three angle valve seats
New valve stem oil seals
New cam seals
Heads are fully assembled to the valve springs

youve had reground cams?

if its your own head then your fine. just drive normally

how much is this costing?

the guys at hi flow heads have a constant supply of heads readlily available on the shelf , you choose what you want and they supply and build it for you depending on your budget.

im having piper 285s in mine
and the above would cost you around 1300

so would you say all this work on the cylinder head need carefull running in ? would be helpfull
thankyou:)
