hi, i have a vts engine that im rebuilding at the minute as a bit of a project, im getting the head gas flowed, uprated cams, and a few other pieces, but i would really like to have itb fitted, but other than the actual throttle body set up (throttle bodies, manifold etc) would i really need to uprate any of the engine internals, such as pistons, rods etc? i no that you get for what you pay but i am tryin to think of cost affectivness

thanks:y:

depends how wild you are going on the cams.

Some require valve cut outs in the pistons and imo its more economical to fit forgies than get OE ones machined.

on other less wild cams oe pistons can be used just forgies can give slight improvements in the rev range through the raise in compression

Couple of questions (just to update my knowledge)

How much would it cost to fit buy and forgies?

How much would it cost to get the OE ones machined?

Do you know of any other 'internal' work needed for newman ph4's ?

costs depend on the make of the pistons and whos fitting them.

same as for the machining.

and no dont know anything about the newmans ph4 as i never even looked at them.

Ok cheers, No idea on a guide price ? For average make, and fitter?

What cams have you got in yours? Thought you'd have some silly ones in seen how you have tb's?

803s I have, which require forged pistons and soid lifters, not just about bodies the whole spec of the engine is one of the highest there is thats built atm. people run bodies on 708s which are quite mild.

Pistons range from 400-600 ish depending on brand and the type of crown you use.

if you go for a slight overbore which some do you will need the bores honed etc... which is when it gets expensive.

I dont know prices of fitting a set of pistons as I was quoted 800+ vat and parts for a full rebuild of an engine and £150iirc for a bore hone

so if i wanted to fit throttle bodies could i use newmans ph3`s, also do the vts pistons have cut outs in them for valve clearance as standard?

Who quoted you that Ryan? I think Northampton Motorsport quoted me around £1000 for boring and fitting new pistons. Surely these aftermarket pistons are larger than OE? So the CC will increase slightly.. ?

accralite for example when I was gonna buy some (pre buying this engine) had 3 bore sizes, 1 was standard, then the other two were slight overbores obviously. It depends on the condition of the bottom end in some cases, as obviously if the bore walls are a mess you need more work or scrap the bottom end.

the price was from matt @ QEP about 12months ago.
