Hi havn't been 6n here for a while as i commited the ultimate sin in selling my vtr and buying a fresh import toyota starlet gt turbo (ino a sin) but im still living for saxos through my mate who has a nice MK1 metallic blue VTR with quad headlight facelift. At the minute its pretty standard but hes keep to bang up the HP and make it a beauty. Now im pretty into modding so know what to do but just to make sure can anyone give us a good oversight into how to push it upto atleast 130bhp hopefully more without a Re-Map or uprating the Cams as were going to do that last.
At the min we just want ideas on more BHP as we know that theres no point pushing up the power if you dont uprate brakes suspension coolong etc
Cheers guys

Best thing you can do for 130ish bhp in my opinion is put a 16valve engine in with a performance exhaust and filter...

Your mate needs to screw his head back on. There are that many about for a reason, because its the way to go...
Spend loads of money polishing a turd (8valve), or start off with double the valves and work from there?

lol mate 8V are very good, i would rather a VTR anytime, itys different stop banging on about valves who cares thers gonna be no VTRs left coz everyone just puts VTS engines in and 106 gti engines in.

Yeah...I'd prefer the VTR too. :P

Only way I would think you get that power with cams/remap (which I assume rules out other kind of management for boost) would be nitrous

youll only be 8v power for life untill you get/drive a vts you weapon. and what do you mean if you put them side by side you would choose the vtr? they are the same car bar engine as said?

I prefered my vtr over my gti for an everyday driver. Easier on the gas and easier to drive with only 8v's. But for power the gti wins hands down, although it's alot more modded than my vtr was.
Although in reference to the original posters post about starbo's, I'm moving that way to :D

lol skit all you want i prefare my 8V, and i have driven a VTS as it happens and yes it is faster and more powerful but when it came down to it i still prefared my VTR. skit me and mock me all you want, but i prefare my VTR.
am not trying to argue i just prefare VTRs its my preferance, so can we get back on topic please.

Tbh mate I agree. Personal preference, some folk like the smooth 8v compared to the faster yet more on off for want of a better word of a 16v due to needing to be at 3-4k before it really takes off, which it does.

if you are building a powerful VTR then you will end up with a peaky engine anyway.. one that would struggle on emissions, and not be very economical.. makes the 16v seem a worthwhile option

Nothing wrong with the VTR.
Very strong engine, nothing goes wrong if you look after it.
You won't get anywhere near 120 without boost :homme: / cams / remap.
Firstly i'd get it through a very good service at a decent garage. No point working on a shit engine.
Get a decent induction kit, a decent exhaust system.
You'll see about 100bhp.
Remember its not all about bhp.
Other things to think about:
Torque
Driver's skill
Suspension
Brakes

I'd probably go for a Forte actualy. Dunno why, just prefer lower spec cars.

I guess i can see why people prefer their VTR to a VTS. I have driven a VTS and have owned 2 VTR's. Ye, the VTS is faster, but on personal preference, i wouldn't chop it in for a VTS as you get attached to your car, im very attached to my VTR, love it. Also as im rounding up to 25 soon, insurance is cheap as chips on! Lots of people have differnt reasons for their views, lets just appreciate that!
