okay so my plan is to take the back box of my corsa vxr and replace it with a pipe. so the car would have no back box. with it being a turbo it doesnt rely to much on back pressure from the back box like a N/A engine. so wouldnt sound to shit untill i ragged it.

true on false? :y:

Original Equipment at Manufacturer or something along those lines. Its illegal as its a requirement speciafically by law to have a backbox, and it may sound like a tractor on idle. It could sound nice, it could sound shite.

my friends milltek exhaust on his focus rs has a middle box then just a pipe to the back.
sounds really good, screams when boosting.

way too loud, deemed illegal if caught by the pigs, perhaps worst of all makes you look a massive cunt if you accelerate in front of other people etc etc

I don't understand what you're planning is the equivalent of you back box falling off and leaving it.

Surely you'd be better of getting a decent turbo back system, at least it will sound nice and serve a purpose.

just take back box of and got for a short drive to see what it sounds like, if it sounds ok get a pipe made up but if it dont you havnt spent any money

Surely it would be too loud.

Mikey
27th January 2009, 21:04
your missing the point. a turbo car doesnt rely on the back box for back pressure. there fore it wouldnt be loud like a naturally aspirated car. you get me?

how would it be to loud?

the backbox acts as a silencer aswell. like you say not quite a important on a turbo car but it still needs to be there.

oh and when an exhaust goes from turbo then exits its not a screamer pipe, i dont tink there is a real name for it.

a screamer pipe is used when you have an external wastegate. 90% of people plumb the screamer pipe back into the exhaust system as they are way too loud on boost.if you intend on doing trackdays or not getting pulled over every 5 mins dont vent a screamer pipe to atmosphere.

the back box amplifies (sp) the sound, so its kinda important to have one.

a freids celica gt4 has a back box thats had all the baffles removed and that makes a nice noise

Barry123

how would it be to loud?

the backbox is still a silencer dude

Mikey

the backbox is still a silencer dude

ye i see what your saying mate.

but the car has 2 cats and a silencer.

the back box gone, shouldnt make to much of a differnce.

i hope lol

gixxa
27th January 2009, 21:54
you only need 1 silencer by law, so a mid box is perfectly legal

Mikey
27th January 2009, 21:55
so with no back box should be okay?

plus its not gunna be as loud as boy racer exhausts or a de cated car.

so police should have problems?

gixxa

yes is should be fine it will only really make a difference on boost

you dont look like a boy racer in a VXR corsa you look like a boy racer in for example saxo's, corsa early ones, civics and things with stupid bodykits

the police should not say anything provided its bellow the exhaust noise limit but i cant see the police having a tester in the car. plus its only mainly the traffic cops that will look over the car normal area police dont seam to do it.
but your car should be ok with only one silencer missing.
