my question is i currently have a raceland 4-2-1 and magnex backbox connected to the standard saxo centre section. However I had a piece welded in where the cat is. Instead of buying a supersprint race section if i was to weld another piece in where the silencer was would this be exactly the same as having a supersprint race section there?

I would just get a mk2 furio centre section, that will de-cat and has no centre box. Will only cost £15 or there abouts.
Unless the welding costs nothing

it in theory is yes
but having less joins means there is a smoother flow in the system
the furio pipe is a smaller diameter in some areas and the bends will be collapsed slightly on cheaper parts

okay then another question for you 'saxo god'.
Is the noise difference between having a silencer and not having one much at all? i'm not really looking to make it louder but raspier if you know what i mean? any performance gains?

the main difference is the pipe diameter

is that a hint of sarcasm lol
im here to help mate
the difference will be noticeable and around the same as if you decat the car (maybe a bit less as the at is the biggest restriction in the exhaust)
for rasp (and the best performance) on an n/a motor (to an extent of tuning) you want a 2" system hence thats what most 'race' systems are made to
keep it 2" even at the tip and itll be pretty raspy
