i might be being stupid but what are the pro's and con's of having one and what do they actually do?

Basically catch oil during hard driving. If you just have a breather filter on the crankcase then you might find it will spunk oil everywhere. With a catch tank though it prevents it. Also it looks nice in the bay.

more importantly, its actually an MOT failure to vent oil fumes to external air ie as people do with a breather. It actually needs a remote catch tank to be 100% right. Most MOT places havent got a clue though.

(i certainly wouldnt get through MSA scrutineering with just a breather)

at the moment i have my breather hose into my raceland induction is that still ok and still an mot pass?

I've just re-located mine to the side of my engine block. There are 2 holes there iirc, that's for the bracket used to hold the std induction pipe. Make up a bracket and mount on there.
