You'll never make a VTR uber fast without spending a fortune on TB's, TC or SC.

Your money would be better spent doing what you don't want to do, and that is whack a vts lump in

Seriously if you want more power, don't waste your money tuning the VTR lump.

The other way to make your car quicker is to concentrate on the weight and the chassis.

Decent suspension, tyres and brakes can be more useful than adding 50bhp round the twisties.

You can also make you car faster by making it lighter - rip out everything you don't need. My car has one seat, no stereo, no interior trim, carbon bonnet and I am in the process of making it even lighter with a carbon roof, and fibreglass pannels.

As I've said, don't bother tuning your engine - money would be far wiser spent elsewhere

Although, I do agree mate, if you wans serious power, then a VTS lump is the way forward.

lol mate tbf there is 30bhp difference, hardly a lot, and a VTS only has 120bhp which isnt that much.
have you got a full catback exhaust system mate? decat? ported and polished TB? and as above try losing some weight.

As everyone has said putting a Vts engine in would be the best thing to do for power and money, but seeing as you dont want to, i few cheeper tips;

-Enclosed Induction kit Such as BMC or Raceland, get rid of the piper cross one.

-4-2-1 Manifold or 4-1 Manifold, (4-2-1 Better low down power, 4-1 Better high end power)

KAM Racing do some good deals.

-Full exhaust system with De-Cat.

-Good service wont do anything for your power though its always good to do so the enigine runs the way it should.

all that should help the engine breath better so you should see som small gains.

er next step is Cams and re-map ext but that costs alot.

It's the way the VTS delivers the power that makes it so much faster, rather than the actual figures.

Despite only being 30bhp difference, firstly in a light car like a saxo that figure is magnified when looking at Power to weight, and secondly for a VTS Engine your looking about £400 therefore paying about £400 for a 30bhp gain is probably not that extreme compared to the likes of the cost of throttle-bodying or turbo/charging.

A Cammed VTR Engine with a decent remap and breathing mods would still only be putting out anywhere between 115-130 (although feel free to correct me on this if I'm wrong), and the cost of that is going to be a lot more than the cost of a VTS Engine, which will give you that straight away and has better gains per £, to give you a better platform to build on.

Although If it really is tuning you want rather than an entire engine change, then a decent Induction Kit, Performance Manifold, and Racing exhaust system, with depending on funds, a fast road camshaft (Newmans PH1 etc) is generally the way forward, although you will see the biggest improvements from weight loss and suspension changes, as said before.

Hope this helps mate :y:
