When people say they have had their car "chipped", what exactly is done?

usually fucked up lol.
chipping is usually just inserting a chip into the ecu to alter the fueling.

most of the time it hasnt.
Some cars work well off generic chips mind.

in reality you should have the ecu set up to work with all of the modifications on the engine side of things.
not just using a generic one for an exhaust and filtered engine for example

yeahh, so with an exhaust and airfilter or less, it will be pointless?

yeah ecu will have adjusted itself to suit already

imo there isnt a point in wanging a chip on for an air filter.
Money is better spent elsewhere in the grand sceme of things, and long term remapping an ecu with a set of cams for example lead to far greater gains.
Im getting my map an my bodied car in a week or so as its overfueling a touch :(

yeahh, it seems like one of those pointless modifications people who dont really have a clue what there doing do.

There are ways in which a chip is used in a remap but like i say most people dont brag about the chip :P
