mk2 vtr has cat in manifold, so an aftermarket will decat it. do what im planning and get a mk1 cat and middle pipe for mot time

not an MOT failure atall.
Unless its a decat manifold then you need a cat in the system elsewhere

sounds a stupid question, but what is a manifold?

the exhaust manifold is the first part of the exhaust.
its where the exhaust ports on the head have tubes coming off of them for the amount of cylinders the engine has, this then goes down into a single pipe usually where the exhaust goes.

You will need a manifold with a sports cat in it otherwise it will be an mot failure, or you can use a mk1 system which has the cat under the car. up to you mate.

You can get round it by using a MK1 setup. put the cat under the car. You will then only have to swap the middle pipes over for mot time instead of the whole mani :y:
