View Full Version : Miles left on the light..?

Probably been posted before but had a search and can't find anything..

When the orange petrol light comes on..

Roughly, how many miles until fuel runs out?

I know it will differ between engine sizes but I'm just curious as I normally fill up as soon as the light comes on and wonder how much longer I could leave it!

Cheers :y:

bad idea to let your car go below a quarter of a tank m8 pulls all the shit through from the bottom of your tank, bad for the engine, fill up sooner

Serious?

Fair enough lol, didn't realise that..!

Do you guys always fill up above quarter then?

I usually fill up before the light goes on but a bit less than a quarter tbh..

i think the 'R' tank (Reserve) holds 5 Litres. I never let it get low!

when i can i fill up when it gets to the quarter mark but not always as its not always practical, alot safer for our engine though, as for how much petrol from light coming on im not too sure on saxos as ive not long joined the saxo scene but in most cars you got bout 10-15 quids worth of juice sometimes more but saxos dont relly hold much fuel in comparison with others? just a safer idea never to get that far down for more reasons then none lol

I was told it was about 25 miles till empty when the red light comes on.

Alright cheers guys..

I'll try my best to fill up before it gets too low to prevent all the crap at the bottom lol..

At least if the light does come on I know I have at least a fiver of fuel left though!!

I disagree due to the pump allready picking up fuel from the bottom of the tank.

You can broke down the fuel pump.

disagree all you want m8 its a well known fact when the fuel runs low all the dust and shit on the bottom of the tank becomes unsettled and moves around alot etc getinng drawn into the pump, also think of it this way, if you have say 40g of shit in your tank when the tank is full the 40g that may be floating around will be "diluted" for want of a better word, when you run low and there aint much fuel all of that 40g is condensed and this means your alot more likely to be pulling it through than when the tank is full if you get me, not the best way of explainin it but you should catch my drift

dunno what you guys put in your tank, but i dont put dirt and dust into mine. besides IF there was any in the tank it would be unsettled enough due to movement, and you have fuel filters which would stop any contaminants getting into the engine

i would say about 30 miles but you fill up when you need to imo

reserve tank holds 4-5 litres = 1 gallon. Theroretically a car capable of 45 mpg would do 45 miles with the light on. depends how much fuel is actually in there including whats in the fuel lines etc

My fuel light is very unreliable though, it goes down and light comes on then if I park up and drive away a bit later the light is back off and I have nearly a quarter of a tank.. wtf

i can get about 40 miles driving on orange light driving very sensibly.

also, running it low doesn't damage your engine at all, the fuel filter is there for a reason and not only that, the pump is always drawing fuel from the bottom as said before.

then why in buggery do I need a fuel filter if it's just letting crap go through the fuel system?

I let mine go deep into the orange all the time. same with my derv... never had and never will have a problem.

Same here Sayer.

I went 45 miles into the Orange yesterday and car is fine. I always do it, the fuel filter is there for a reason.

ive travelled 40 miles with the fuel light on in my 1.1 avrg speed of 60

*bangs head against wall*

anyway... back to the original question...

5 litres is the 'official' amount... I'm more inclined to say there is around 6 litres though.

depending on drive and car, you're looking at a minimum 35miles - if you're retarded enough not to control your right foot.

i found that if i have a low amount of fuel and my car is leaning to one side the fuel light will go on and off. quite un-reliable lol.
