Why would you want to put mesh in your exhaust mate? You got an MOT coming or something?

aftermarket exhaust?
if so replace it with a standard for the test
if its failing with a standard system then theres something wrong, probably the cat itself

where i was working ( mot center long Eaton Nottingham ) the guy doing them, say if he got one that failed after two times, he used to rev it with the tester pipe in then disconnect it and spin it round in the air whilst the test was running and it used to pass... :P nice big place as well modern but scabby ways, makes you wounder if there really giving your car a good test if your actually bothered about it, id investigate into whats making it fail.

When was your car last serviced? You'd be supprized how much of a difference a good service will make to the emissions, especially if it hasn't been done in a while

putting a new cat on and taking it for a re-test wont do nothing, CAT's take a while to bed in if thats the word. Try a service on it.

i'm pretty certain they don't. once they've warmed up (5-10mins of driving) they work. no 'bedding in' needed...
