Is 3000rpm @ 60mph?

When I hit 60mph in my VTR (5th gear) the rev counter is 3000rpm, is this normal, as when I go to 80mph for example sounds like there should be a 6th to go into?

Sounds daft I know,

sounds like you have a shorter ratio box on your VTR. At 60mph it should be nearer 2600 rpm. My 1.1 sits at 3k revs at 60mph but it has a short 1.1 gearbox. IT is ok for the engine to be at those revs though

My 1.1 is exaclty the same as that... perfectly normal, 80mph you be at about 4.5k to 5k rpm ish....

I've got a westcoast and I'm on 2900rpm at 70. I only know this because I noticed it on the motorway last week. Sounds like something is up with your VTR if it's 3000rpm at 60.

when i sit at 60mph it feels liek there should be a 6th gear lol

I have to VERY VERY lightly use the right pedal to keep 60mph going, and i meen very little.

Dont think you can put 6 speed boxes on a saxo though, not without work anyways

My VTR sits at 3,000 rpm at 60mph, just over 3,500 rpm at 70mph. Before I had a new gearbox put in, it did 70mph at 3,000 rpm so sounds like the gearbox has been changed at some point.

most cars will sit at 3.2 3.5 doing 70 unless its diesel they tend to be tourquier lower in the revs so 70 is achived at 2.5 2.8k
